The bushnell trophy cams are the best that I have used.  I have two of the 8.0s and love em.  also have a D40 and am not as impressed with it.

The battery life alone makes the Trophy Cam a cheaper cam then the D-40. IMO I don't think the D-40 has good battery life when compared with newer cams like the Trophy cam. I would rather buy 8 AA batteries every 4 months than 6  D cells every month or more. I can't tell you how long my Cam will run on 8 AA batteries yet because after 3 months they are doing great and I have taken more pics with several videos than I took with 3 D-40 cams and a pile of D cell batteries in 6 months. I can get 16 AA batteries for 5 bucks. That is enough to run my cam for 1 year!! A littel more money now but alot less in the long run.

Also IR cams are more secure than flash cams becasue they don't give them self away. and with a good box the bears and thieves won't be able to get them.

Just my thoughts.

I am planning on getting a couple more trail cameras. What cameras do you guys like the best for say under $400.00?

I think it really depends on what you plan to do and where.

What are you trying to get out of it?
Great photos - go expensive.
Just want to see what is around - go cheap.

Obviously theft or damage can happen anywhere, but it is more prevelant on public land.
Public land - go cheap.
Private land - spend more.

I have 2 Moultrie 100's that were $100 each when I bought them, 3 Wildview EZ Cams that were $40 each on sale and 2 Bushnells that were $200 & $180 each.

The two 6 volt rechargeables for the M100's were $25 each plus $30 for the charger.
4 sets of C rechargables at $20 per set for the Wildview cameras plus $25 for the charger.
$10 for a 12 volt cable, $30 for a 12 volt battery and $30 for the charger for the Wildviews.
About $20 for 8 AA batteries for the Bushnells. One cam has 8 AA's and the other has 4 AA's.
Also an average of $15 each for 10 2gig SD cards.
You may also have to figure in box/cable/lock.

I am currently using the Wildviews a lot and I like them for the price. I will pick up at least two more when I get a chance. The Bushnells seem to do really well on batteries and the pictures are 8megapixels. I don't think I will ever buy another Moultrie. I have never had good luck with the new ones.

I used to use the stealth cams, but recently they've been putting junk on the market imo. . .

I picked up an 8.0 bushnell at the beginning of the summer and absolutely love it. It took over 3000 pictures in a 2 month soak here in Idaho while I worked back home and still had batteries.  I replaced them just in case but it was very impressive.

My cousins moultrie I65 cameras take good pics, but they are rather large.  I'm thinking of getting the bushnell trophy as well.  Keep us informed on how you like em.

Thanks for the link.
