HDR shots look really good when done right. You guys have all put together some great images!

Looks like I need to upgrade to Aperture 3 so I get in on the phone. I can't get Photomatix to run on Aperture 2.

i am lost. are these real pictures? or are they altered in software? they are really cool but some look a little cartooney, not bad, just different. like a painting. are these special cameras?

Yep they are real photos and yep altered with software, sometimes the photos we take need some WOW factor because they would be just a little ordinary otherwise so shooting HDR photos is a way to bring a little bit of excitement and creativity to a photo. Some pics are way over done and can still look good some don't !!!
