Little Naches-----PACKED!!!

Well Guys,

I new this year was going to be a bit different beings how they changed the Spike and Cow to 346. BUT TODAY IS WEDNESDAY THE 1st! I was over in the Naches setting up Elk camp. I thought I was really early in doing this. WRONG.. Sad to say that Little NAches area had elk hunters rolling in all day today. Not Jeepers or motorcycle weekend campers.....Hunters. The area we have been scouting all summer. Had a tent set up in the area just to give the illusion that they were going to be hunting there. Unless you guys that are heading up the little Naches area to hunt are going to go deep far away from the roads, you may want to consider a backup plan. I am not even playing with you. Just my observation of today.

Nope, Not Camo tent... I did leave a nice note on the tent door that we have been scouting this area all summmer and we have had trail cameras up since March and we would be hunting there opening morning just to let them know. I know it is public land and this is bound to happen, but I am not going somewhere else at this point. At least not for the opener. The area is big enough. Just a bit frustrating.

We will see how it goes.

It is labor day weekend, I would expect everyone and there mom to be there this weekend.

Bummer, I know a fella that has a bull tag there this year. Hope he can make it happen with all of the pressure this year.

       Last year would of been way better to draw a peaches archery tag. But i will make the most of it.

Use the hunters to your advantage & have them push the elk to you. Get up earlier than everyone else and get ahead of the hunters. Set up and wait. They will keep the animals moving around.  Mike

We though about hunting it this year but decided to stick to the normal spot thinking it might be better because everyone else is in little naches.

If it is easy to get to then I am not surprised you have company.  It is Washington and it is near impossible to get away from others.  We are 7 miles in by trail and there is a always a camp or two within a half mile.

I find it rather humorous that opening weekend is also labor day weekend and both camping and hunting are popular that weekend ...we used to go camping and dirtbiking and always ran into archery hunters...the best were the ones all camo'd up ripping around on quads asking have you seen any elk have you seen any elk

Archery elk doesn't open until Tuesday the day after Labor Day so they are either scouting or hunting deer this weekend.  If I had two weeks off and didn't have a 7month old at home, I would be heading out this weekend.  Heading out on 10th... Little Naches is on the list of possibilities.

True that.  No sympathy for you. I live next to 346, 340, 342.  Just because you scout an area on public land, set trail cams  or put up a camp you are not reserving that area. I get a kick out of guys from the w side who scout up put up camps, trail cams  over here on the E side and really think that they own the area and think that the e side is their own little private recreational kingdom .  Out hunting and run into these types and they are aggressive and have even been threatened on public land. And these guys are always are sneaking on my and neighbor's property even though no trespassing signs everywhere. See this attitude on rivers and lakes over here too. Only going to get worse with increasing population.

That's my rant

So true. We hunted the muzzle loader season there one year and it was like a civil war. We sat still for about 20 minutes and sure enough 4 elk came storming through right in front of us. Unfortunately elk fever hit me and those elk are still running...

I Have hunted Little Naches all my life. Crowded yes, but you learn to hunt with those situations.
Just because you put up trail cams, scouted and all, does not mean chit........ and to leavea note on a another party's tent is stupid.
Do you think they really care? i would burn the damn note and continue my hunt...
If you dont like the fact that someone else is in "YOUR SPOT",  I suggest you go hunt somewhere else..........

get off the roads and Little Naches can be a great hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


AND DONT FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR BEER CANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy did quite a few of you miss the point. I was just saying that even on Wednesday it was packed with Hunters. My opening day spot was just an example. My note was out of courtesy. And the tent was not a camp. Just something somene through up thinking it was going to keep people out of the area. I do not feel entitled or a sense of ownership of an area just because I have had a trailcam up since April. All I was saying is you better be prepared to hike in cause your just not gonna pop over for morning or an afternoon and find elk standing next to the road. You are gonna find trucks. And not everyone that posts on here are slobs that leave beer cans lying around so go check yourself.

I didn't state that your leave beer cans, It was just a general statement. I think the point most of us were making was the NOTE you left. I would rather wait and talk to the people that actually own the tent. You would get more accomplished and maybe just maybe you could work things out, instead of assuming they put a tent there just so that others would not hunt there....

I hunt rifle over there. And i do know alot of people that go up set up a cheap tent in a spot that they would like to camp and leave it till they are able to bring everything else up. kind of like reserving it, if you know what i mean. they do it mostly with a cheap tent that way if someone steals it they wont be out of pocket much....

I have had people come into our camp and ask if they could walk thru to their stand. I always have said no problem, its a free country last time I checked....................

Yeah because we were there on Wednesday we got the spot we were hoping for. That wall tent is awesome and went up without a hitch. It would take a tornado to bring that thing down!Took us about an hour to get it put up. You know the spot right? I look forward to seeing you up there!

I'm pretty sure I can find it, the family and I are staying at a friends cabin by gold creek this weekend but I will be up their to help my dad with elk hunting on Tuesday night or early wed morning. I plan on staying till sunday, I can't wait to see how the hunting is this year and hopefully help pack out Terry's elk that you guys bring in for him. I will see you guys sometime sat day, probably about the time the poker game breaks out.

You know, I know the burn ban was suppose to be lifted today. I think one of the guys is bringing a chainsaw so we will probably go get wood. I heard it got down pretty chilly last night. If you have access to wood that is the perfect size for the stove, you may want to bring it if it is not a bunch of work. I do not know what type or size of stove so it is hard to say.

I'm planning on hunting there the 2nd week, a bunch of the guys will be gone. I couldn't believe I was there last weekend and there was a guy setting up a hunting camp 5 MILES IN!!!

I am getting a little nervous about the crowds up there. I can only go on the weekends. Had to have shoulder surgery and wasnt sure I would be able to go at all since I have been unable to shoot. However, turned the poundage down a little bit and have started shooting again. I guess we will just have to make the best of it rey to get in away from the roads a ways. Pretty stoked- I finally get to go with my bro-in-law. He has a couple places on the west side he knows about and he got the multi season tag so he said he would take me out and try to get me my first elk. He knows the are pretty well from muzzle loading years prior, so we will see what happens. I am sure that if nothing else I will learn a lot from him.

How far away is the Rimrock unit from Naches? On the map it doesnt look very far, but I have not been that far down on the 12

directly from little naches unit, you would have to drive bout 35miles east to the hwy 410/hwy 12 junction then another 35/40miles west on hwy 12 from the junction.. if your on the west side, easyest way is just go up and over hwy 12 than to back track... or there is a "shorter" way but ur basically driving  old gravel rd that connects the nile area to white pass but too much to explain but it is called bethal ridge rd.

Thanks that is what I was looking for. I think I ended up there on accident my first year elk hunting. Went through the Nile unit checking it out and ended up on the 12 after long drive on dirt road. Thanks for the info.

Most of them were there for Deer, it overlaps in that GMU. It cleared out once Labor day ended

same here, I just got out of there and saw only a couple of small camps in the area I hunt.......a lot of offroader camps cleared out on labor day.

You will see a lot of offroaders up there the next two wekends.

There is a NNW get together this weekend and "pick up a mountain" next weekend. So if you see alot of jeeps on teh trail next wekend, just wave and say  they are up there cleaning up the trails of trash. You will a bunch of them camped along the hwy in Gold Creek (or atleast i believe that is where they are staging) it is sponsered by the PNW4WDA.

I hunted the opener and there wasnt much for people, I shot my cow that evening and I am back home ready for the high hunt. I never saw a single person out in the feild. There was alot of folks driving around but hunting is as usuall
