I use a 7mm RM for practically everything, and have never had a problem with dropping animals or finding several choices in ammo. If I was hunting high country and long shots were needed it would be the 338 Lapua, but for every day, all around reliable shooting its the 7mm.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

30-06, even though I've never owned one I shot. my wife and kids bought me one for a present 'cause they knew I wanted the action, I brought it in to be rebarreled without ever firing it.

Hmmmm.....

Only ONE rifle??? That would sure be a shame....  :'(

But If I had to stick with ONE, for everything....perhaps the .308. I can kill anything you guys with your '06 can kill  :P (this should get 'it' going!), and find NATO ammo in almost every country.

But I'd hate to leave the 'Ol 300 mag behind.  :chuckle:
A long term survival rifle? The .22 lr as said above. I can ALMOST kill anything you guys with the '06 can kill!   :P (ok, maybe I'm stretching it, but so is this thread!!).
I can't imagine owning only one.

What did you shoot your sheep with? ;)

I shot my sheep with a 7mm Remington Magnum.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
