My first bear tag is considered used up in my opinion.

That is class right there!

Although they are fawn killers. Tree killers...Eating that tag is very honorable.  You gave this a great effort and I hope you'll still take a look in the area for the crows. Bears are tenacious with a will to live behond most folks immagination. Next time I bet you'll take more ammo and a light.

Uh.. Caliber or cartridge?  The 30-30 inside 100yds will take most any Black Bear within Washinton's boundries with a properly placed shot.  In fact, the 30-30 has probably taken more bear than ANY other cartridge.

You put in a one hell of an effort trying your best to find that bear.  You can only do so much, and you went above and beyond what most people would do.

You cannot be faulted for a lack of effort, that is certain.  When I am tracking my next hit animal, I'm going to be measuring my effort in finding it against your effort in finding that bear.  If I feel I measured up to the standard you set here, I will be happy.

  I don't hunt with a 30-30 anymore but when I did I killed Elk ,Deer & Bear with no problem. There's nothing wrong with a 30-30.

30-30 is fine just not for bear.

I have a 30-30, I don't hunt with it because I bow hunt. My father in law has shot everything with a 30-30 since he was a kid deer, ellk, bear, coyotes, even took off a turkey head years ago. In the last year he got a .270, but I still hear him talk about how he loves his 30-30. Over the years the 30-30 has lost popularity with all the cartridges available now, so taking that into consideration, think of the amount of animals taken with fewer tech advances in ballistics, powder, sights. I have plenty of confidence in the 30-30.  At the distance he took that shot there is no reason to doubt a 30-30.

I agree.     In fact I read this statistic not long ago in some sport magazine.
