I hate WDFG
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:40:59 PM »
For cutting August ans Sept. out of Cougar season. After checking the trail cams today I decided to do some calling.
Now I know why I haven't been seeing many deer in this area for the last month. I called in a new clearcut for about 20 minutes, about ready to leave I caught brown/movement about 50 yards away. A big tom sneaking in to get that screaming rabbit and I couldn't shoot it *&^%$#%@#.
Thats the first cougar I've called in, now he's probably going to be a little call shy.

That sucks!  Oh poor WA, I guess we don't have enough cougars, better cut the season even more and make it harder for the average Joe to get one.    :bash:  We all need to boycott this state for hunting licenses until they start to pay attention to hunters' needs and desires.

amen lokidog me and my father have been saying it for years. wish everyone would not buy 1$ worth of crap and then they might listen up. between cougars and wolves we will be lucky to see any game animals in about 5-10 years. sucks i know our ranch has lost 70% of the total deer numbers during the year to cat and yote populations but mainly cat :bash: it sucks >:( washington predator capitol of the 50 states :bash:

Same feeling here. It would just take one year to boycott of us hunting and fishing for a year and maybe they will listen. But it would have to take all of us to do it. I could just target shoot for a year. How about the rest of you?
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

I've been saying the same thing for several years now, but then you get the guys that say " go ahead, that will leave more for me".

I would get on board if something was organized but come time to put in for special permits too many guys would get greedy hoping for better draw odds and buy their license, tags, and permit applications, it might even make the application sales numbers go up.

For years I've layed off the call from March 31'th until August/bear season, not so much so I wouldn't have to pass on a shot as much as I hate the Idea of educating a cougar to a call.

if it makes you feel any better, I was on some usfw ground which has a bible of what you can shoot and where laws. I watched a coyote bask in the sun for 20 minutes at 50 paces........but he was on the wrong side of a bever pond thus breaking the shooting across a body of water verbage.

I love to kill coyotes. I pretend they are wolves, makes me all giddy inside.

If it makes you feel better, Cats have short memories of calls, in three days he will come to it again.  Larry

Still a thrill to see one, eh? Did something happen that made you think he'd be call shy? Did you give him warning shot, or run Coyote Fight, or Hound dog baying, or something? If there wasn't a "trauma" to punctuate the end of the calling session, I think he'd come back in today. No worries. Go back with the bow!

The cat seen me when I moved, I purposely stood up so he would see me and run, I didn't want it getting any closer.
If I was using my electric call and decoy then I would have sat back and watched the show but I was using a mouth call. I was thinking that cougar would associate the sound of a wounded rabbit with a human now.

BTW it is cool that it came in to a call.
I've been hunting yotes for 25 years and this is the first time that I've had a cougar come it. I've had bobcats come in but never a cougar.
