Here are a couple macro shots I took at Lake Chelan this weekend !!

These are from a couple weeks ago when Timber and I where looking for places to cross creeks without getting our feet wet.

Looks like a Rhinoceros beetle of some sorts. COOL!

I have been testing out an old manual focus Canon FL 55mm f1.2 lens lately.  Yea...f1.2.  Super fast.  This type of a lens costs 1.5k or so these days but this one was given to me by my father.  You can get fast old lenses like this on ebay.  For doing portraits and abstract macro work, they are amazing.  The bokeh is unbelievable.

What was the lens you had on the boat?

Yeah.  I'm still trying to figure out how to connect it to my camera.  For now I hold it up to the opening and focus by moving closer or farther from the subject.  I have an adapter coming that will hopefully allow focus confirmation.  I'll have to machine it to fit the lens but it should be a fun project.

How the hell do you do a portrait with it, the tip of the nose would be in focus but the eyes and rest of face wouldn't.

Exactly.  That's why the 85mm f1.2 L is one of the best portrait/wedding lenses ever.  Soft focus and shallow depth of field is perfect for portraits.

I'd like it for some of my birds I think.  The tame ones in the pen so I can wash outthe background of the pens but be right up on the bird.    might be too soft though for that.
