Free Guided Youth Hunt (Results)
« on: September 26, 2010, 06:02:22 PM »
So we had a free guided youth hunt weekend and had 8 boys both days in 3 different fields.  I took 2 boys out Saturday and the ducks were coming in good and the boys were shooting straight.  Both had limits by 9:30.  One boy finished his limit first had his 7 and the other needed 3 for a full limit.  We told the boy he has 3 shells and only needs 3 birds.  A few minutes later 8 Spoonies come into the pond with feet down and wanting in the dekes.  The boy fired once 1 spoonie fell, shot the 2nd shell another spoonie fell dead, shot the 3rd shell and winged another and unfortunately sailed and the dog was unable to find him even after walking the knee high barley for 30 minutes.  So back in the blind now only needing 1 bird in the distance comes a pair of mallards and he Stones the drake.  Great shooting by two 14yo.

Sunday took out 3 other boys one of them finished his hunters safety course on Saturday bought his license Saturday night.  So his very first hunt.  He was so happy when he shot his very first duck, a green wing teal.  The teal sailed on him but three guys marked him well and sent the dog to the area of fall and the boy had his very first duck.
