2010 Early muzzleloader season: no buck but awsome hunt
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:16:04 PM »
I didnt tag out as of yet but spent a good week over east seeing alot of deer and passing on one three point. It was really hot temps everyday we were there except one day was cool and overcast. I made it over on friday 9/24 to drive around and see what I could see. I saw a decent 3x4 right off the road on that friday. I stalked upon the buck opening morning starting from way up above only to have two gentlemen shoot at it before I could sneak down the ridge. They scared him away and I later heard that a girl had wounded it and was in the process of tracking it about a half mile from where I'd seen it i hope it was recovered.

Here he is

Amid all of the small two points and does that I saw the entire week, I went all the way until the last day before I saw another legal buck, it was very poor hunting weather they were all buried in the timber and the leaves rustle like mad. I saw a very nice 4 point in the back of a maroon Chevy pickup with the rack propped up against the guy's quad  hes lucky i didn't see him riding his quad otherwise i would have phoned a report into the police (its a "NO ATV" area where I hunt). The guys who ride the ridges and rut up the hillsides unlawfully have no respect nor consideration for the preservation of our great sporting heritage. Anywho, I saw a lot of road hunters with only a few people out really walking around (even on the old skids). On the last day I was side-hilling a nice untouched drainage and I happened upon a small 3 pt standing about seventy yards across a small draw. I let him pass knowing he still has growing up to do and I still have late blacktail hunting to look forward to. I have a lot of time invested into a few bucks over here on the wet side so we'll see how that plays out next month. Overall this was an amazing trip and even though I didn't notch the tag I dont think it gets any better then to spend quality time hunting the same grounds my family has for many decades and hearing all of the stories to go along.

Heres some more pics I took
