If your looking for a flatter shooting bullet for your .30-06,, I would shoot the 150gr.pointed soft point core lokt. It shot out of my .30-06 just fine. Infact I used it on both deer and elk, until I started reloading. With the right shot placement the 150 gr. will kill anything in the lower 48..

Until I started reloading I shot nothing but 180gr PSP core lokts out of my 30-06.  Deer, elk, bear, everything died just like it does now that I handload premium bullets and shoot super whiz bang magnums. The 30-06 with 180gr bullets just does everything well. :twocents:

I am not sure of the question. Are you asking what shoots the flatest, or what groups the tightest? As to what shoots the flatest, the difference between the 165 and 150grain is negligible. I doubt you are going to be taking game at 400 yds. If it were me I would use 165's. Anything inside of 300yds the 165 does as good as the 150 if not better. The 165 has slightly more mass to buck the wind better. If you look at energy, the two have very close ft/lbs at 300yds, but the 165 has about 150 more ft/lbs at 400yds.

150 grain (zero'd at 200yds)
Muzzle 2900 FPS
200 yds  2496fps    0"
300yds  2307 FPS  -7.2" (drop)
400 yds  2126 fps  -21"  (drop)

165 grain (zero's at 200yds)
Muzzle  2800fps
200yds 2424 fps  0"
300yds  2248 fps  -7.8" drop
400 yds 2079 fps -22.4" drop

As far as the tightest group goes, it totally depends on your gun. My 30-06 is extremely picky, 180g nosler partitions get about a 1 to 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds. But I am lucky to get 4 to 6" groups with other bullets. But what shoots well in my gun, probably wont in yours. So buy a couple different kinds and expiriment. Core locts dont shoot well in mine.

Completely depends on the gun, ea of my 06's like different ammo, one shoots Federal soft tip 150s 1" at 100, the other im lucky to get two rounds in 4" with that ammo.
This gun shoots Winchester ballistic tip 180s to 1" at 100. Go figure.
I use a lead sled, several brands of ammo, a few hours and clean repeatedly throughout the exercise.
I did this with my .270 last year, found 2 brands that deliver sub minute groups at 100 and 200, harvested a nice whitetail at 300 plus as a payoff for the efforts!
Eat, Sleep, Hunt, Repeat.

i have a 30-6 .i use a 165 grain .my question is what brand shoots the best right now i use a Remington brand core-loc.

I don't know? What shoots best out of your rifle??? That is the real question.
For the sake of argument and not to get to complicated you need to find what shoots best out of your rifle, not what your buddies say is best for them.
Lets use 165grain to keep it simple.
Your shooting 165 core-locs currently correct? So are they fairly accurate from your rifle?
Lets say you are shooting groups of 2 inches with 165 core-locs, 100yd off a solid rest or site vice.
Without changing anything you try federals in 165, don't change anything else, don't even change scope adjustments, just shoot some groups (i don't care if they hit left or right, just how tight is the group).
So the federals shoot a group of 3 inches, hmm, worse than the core-locs.
Now do the same exercise with say 165 winchesters, till you find what groups the best in YOUR gun.
Now adjust your sites/scope to the height above aim you want.
Then buy as much of that ammo as you can.
Then start handloading and really have some fun.
*
As for your "friends" that say under 165 wont drop an animal, stop listening to those friends.
Lots of animals die with 150 grain and less every year, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.
Good bullets put into the correct place do bad things...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

When I shot store bought ammo, My 30-06 liked the Federal classic 150gr soft point. They are deadly. I killed my only bull elk with a 150 hornaday interlock bullet I hand loaded. The elk only went about 20 yards before falling over. Many deer have fallen from this load as well. Don't let your buddies tell you 150's from a 30-06 are a little light, Cause they are NOT! 150's work great from the ole' 06.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I was using the 165gr core-lokts until I got into handloading... and now I'm never going back

Best partitions I've found so-far (and there are off the shelf equivalents for each)
* Nosler 168gr ballistic tip
* Barnes 168gr TSX HPBT (OMG..)

All can be found online or in most major sporting goods retailers.
Theres plenty of room for all of gods animals.... right next to the mashed potatoes!

I hand loaded 150 gr  of several manufactures. They all shot well in my Springfield 03-A3. I shot coyotes, deer (all three types), elk, pronghorn, caribou and bear. I never needed more than the 150 gr. It is all shot placement and a accurate bullet.
