WWPHA Nov. meeting and Cougar calling seminar
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:31:40 PM »
The Western Washington Predator Hunting Association November meeting will be at Cabela's in Lacey.
The meeting will be on Sunday Nov. 14th. Meeting time is at noon.
Cabela's has asked that anyone ordering food to eat in the meeting room. So as to save space in the deli.

This months guest speaker will be Steve Tormala of Rainshadow Game Calls. Steve will be doing a seminar and question and answer about calling Cougars.
He will also have product for sale at the meeting. Hand calls, and his electronic call cd loaded with cougar vocalizations and a very informative tutorial.

There will not be a drawing for a buddy hunt this month as big game seasons are under way.

Should be a very informative meeting. Looking forward to seeing you all there. The meetings are  open to the public. Come check us out.

The seminar will be mostly stories, photos, video, and the talking points will revolve around Frequently Asked Questions. I have a good list, but if you have other questions, Please feel free to post here. I'll mesh them into the program.

Looking forward to it!

Since 99% of being successful is locating a cougar to call to or around, maybe you could throw in some biology.   :chuckle:  Can you tell I pretty much need a ground up education?

It's funny, Kain, but every question usually comes back around to some biology or established habit pattern. For instance, how late is too late to call after a confirmed location? Depends on the cat that was confirmed and what it was up to. Each scenario will be based on different age/gender/life status/activity/etc. So there's lots of discussion right there on mated pairs, denning, sub-adults with mom, sub-adults alone together, transient sub adults, territory holding adults of both genders, past prime adults who have become transient... So don't worry! It comes into play!

And yes, ABSOLUTELY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!! Let's pack it out and have a fun get together under the gracious hospitality of WWPHA!!!

I would like to go but it's bad timing. That's the last weekend of the westside elk season. I guess I'll just have to plan on filling my tag the first weekend, huh?

RainShadow1:  Thank you very much for putting on the demo.  I am really looking forward to it.  Is there anything I can do in advance to assist?  I will have a flat screen there for your use.

ADNAHOUNDSMAN:  Thanks Paul for the great posting.  Cant wait to see you and see how you are doing.

EVERYBODY  ELSE:  The meeting will have limited seating.  I will have them leave a few tables set up for those of you which decide to eat there, as they reduce the room rent if we do.  Also, I will request extra seating to be available for walk-ins that do not wish to eat.

Everyone is invited to attend..

Thanks Randy, if the TV takes RCA plugs (standard these days) I can connect the camera to it and do the whole deal from there. (It'll do HD too, if it has a HDMI or 5 RCA plugs for input.) I'll need a few outlets, so maybe a power strip would be handy. There will be some show & tell, with the recording equipment, e-callers, and etc. And I'll have two digital frames going with calls, knives, and hunting pictures. 4 available outlets close to me will do it.

Oh, and for a couple of the videos, I'll want you to be panning the crowd and just getting audio. I don't want them video'd. (Just a couple, not all.)
