Whitetail Down (cowboybilly)
« on: October 23, 2010, 02:57:16 PM »
One of my hunting buds (cowboybilly on here) took this whitetail yesterday and wanted to get the pictures up for all to see. He said he would put up the story when he returns late tomorrow or Monday. He has a second deer tag (whitetail doe) he is trying to fill now.

Good work and the second tag should be a nice plus to a great hunt already :IBCOOL:

Great buck!   8)
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

thanks for posting the pix for me Wea300mag, so here is the short version of the hunt. has to be short so I can go get the thing cut and wrapped and get out for the evening hunt to get a doe. To answer one of the questions, yes I’m getting it mounted by Muleyhunter, seen his work since he's a neighbor and I and the family walk by every day. He leaves his shop door open and I’m snoopy! That's how we met.  :) I was hunting the Mica unit GMU 127 but to be more specific, the newly formed second deer unit part of Mica called Spokane South for the doe. I grew up in the area and have permission to hunt on a few thousand acres that encompasses a pretty expansive canyon. The agreement was that I’d only hunt for a doe until the weekend so the farmer's family could finish filling their buck tags. Fair enough although I had to pass on a very big buck Tuesday night.  :bash: but a deal is a deal! We see does ALL THE TIME except when you have a legal tag I am finding! Just can't seem to find a shooter that doesn't have kids in tow!! On Friday I was heading back to town after not seeing a doe worth shooting and mile south of Freeman I see 5 doe in a grass field 400 yards out so I stop by the house and ask permission and get the ok. The deer are 1/4 mile from them. As I’m driving to the end of the field they take off and run to this stand of timber that is in the middle and the last deer is a shooter buck. I figure heck with lunch, I’m hunting the trees! As I walk over this grass knob I see at least 20 deer eating. They are 300 yards or so I drop and seeing no bucks, decide to get the fat doe in the back. I shoot and all but her run away. She just walks and keeps looking at the tall grass around a run off "stream". I figure I got her so I watch and wait. She still looks ok but doesn't run off just walks to the tall grass and it looked like she went down. I watched for a few more minutes and saw now other movement so I walked to the grass. no blood no body so I walked down the edge of the tall stuff and she took off out the other end. I drew and was getting ready to squeeze when big boy gets up on his front legs between she and I. he was 100 feet away and looks at me like, "what you doing back here?" So I instantly acquired a new target. all I could see was his head and top of the neck so it was easy. It dropped him right there. best shot ever for me, I lost no meat. Like all good hunts, it was Right place, right time. I green scored him last night and got 115 4/8. I had to do something wrong, My buddy has a 130 hanging on his wall and mine is not too much smaller. Maybe Muleyhunter can help me redu it???  ;) Hmmm sorry, I guess that wasn’t the short version after all!

nice buck & nice shot.

Nice buck, what I would typically call poor shot placement, but given the circumstances, good shot.
