Did the meat have any red left or were they white at this point.  I don't mind catching those, but I release them afterwards.  They become way to fishy if you try to smoke or eat them.  Still fun to catch.  You have to start with good product to end with good product.  Or you have to candy the hell out of them, so what's the point.
Now you have a reason to hit the river again.  There are bright ones available.  Good luck.
Cut em!

Lighten up all you PROS. There's a learning curve with salmon and steelhead and those kings are a great place to start learning. I remember the good old days catching those and thought it was the greatest. Once you try to eat a few you'll realize that there are better times and places to catch ones to eat.

Or maybe he likes fungi.

I agree. atleast someone is having some luck. Even if it did drop it's milt on his boots.

I was going to go for the bright silvers. Caught a few last week.  But the place I normally catch them was full of people. So I went out to my sisters property on the river. I caught 13 kings and released them. It was a blast. I had to bring those two home mostly to show my son. Those two are my biggest to date.

There was a slight orange tint to the meat.

Hey Greg... You shouldn't feel the need to apologize for anything. Don't worry about what all the "experts" are saying. Looks to me like you had a great day on the river.

Huntergreg,
I like your enthusiam and the fact that your gettin out there and catchin fish while others sit behind a monitor and flip people crap.

I'm serious, get ahold of me next Aug.I'll get you out in the boat on the Cowlitz and we'll catch those nooks when they are chrome.

Also I hauled a load of fish up to Packwood today and there were a lot of fish being caught.Dont let the crowds run you off,Theres always room for 1 more.Or you can go up to the next hole or down to the bottom of the 1 by the bridge and still catch fish.
