Model 700 trigger adjustment

I have a Model 700 Mountain Rifle and the trigger seems like it is at 50lbs. Is there a way to adjust the trigger pull of the factory trigger? If so, can someone that is mechanically inclined handle the process or is it something a gunsmith should handle? By the way, the rifle is a mid-80s model...I think.

I just helped my brother do exactly the OPPOSITE. His "new" Rem 700 trigger was so light it was going off when closing the bolt. Google around for problems with the Rem 700 trigger. From what I understand, and it's minimal....whatever you do, put nail polish, or glue gun stick, or something over the adjusting screw to keep it from backing out when you're done. Don't attempt any trigger adjustment unless you're fairly knowledgable about how it works. AND ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ADHERE TO THE 4 RULES WITHOUT EXCEPTION!!! Because it could go off unexpectedly.

The trigger on the 700 is pretty easy to adjust yourself.
As long as your not trying to get the pull below about 2lb's you'll be fine.

Make sure you do the slam test and cycle the bolt, etc. after you get the trigger set to where you like it.
Another thisng to keep in mind is dont put any oil in the trigger, oil will catch dirt and grime.
Use a dry lube or run it dry.
