Flashlight on the bow... what a great technique for getting those big blacktail bucks that don't come out till dark.

forgive me if this pisses you off but you posted a picture of you and an archery killed deer.  The bow "seems" to have electronics attached that is the first violation.  The second is you have not clarified that you have a rifle tag.  That's all.  It is a nice deer and hopefully everything is on the up and up.  It's your picture and those are the facts in the picture.  Kinda like the guy that shot the big bull elk years ago and right behind him was the yellowstone park boundry sign.  Pictures don't lie.
i wanna see that pic maybe someone can pm me a link to it

For the sake of the argument lets say that this individual is legally hunting during rifle deer season (possess a rifle tag) and either is hunting in a firearm restriced area or is simply choosing to use a bow. If those things that we see are a scope or some type of flashlight then he would be cited for Unlawful Archery Equipment WAC 232-12-054 & RCW 77.15.410 (fish and wildlife citations require both a WAC and RCW, most other offenses just need an RCW) which is a misdemeanor and carries a $162 fine. As far as the hunter orange goes, since he is already back at his truck it is hard to determine whether or not he actually wore the orange while hunting, lots of people wear the orange, get back to the truck to take pics and take the orange off. But if he wasn't wearing orange while hunting he would only have a $87 infraction, most officers don't cite for the not wearing hunter orange, especially if they can already charge you with an other offense.

WAC 232-12-054
Archery requirements — Archery special use permits.
  (1) Rules pertaining to all archery:

     (a) It is unlawful for any person to carry or have in his possession any firearm while in the field archery hunting, during an archery season specified for that area, except for modern handguns carried for personal protection. Modern handguns cannot be used to hunt big game or dispatch wounded big game during an archery, big game hunting season.

     (b) It is unlawful to have any electrical equipment or electric device(s) attached to the bow or arrow while hunting.

     (c) It is unlawful to shoot a bow and arrow from a vehicle or from, across, or along the maintained portion of a public highway, except that persons with a disabled hunter permit may shoot from a vehicle if the hunter is in compliance with WAC 232-12-828.

     (d) It is unlawful to use any device secured to or supported by the bow for the purpose of maintaining the bow at full draw or in a firing position, except that persons with an archery special use permit may hunt game birds or game animals using a device that stabilizes and holds a long bow, recurve bow, or compound bow at a full draw, and may use a mechanical or electrical release.

     (e) It is unlawful to hunt wildlife with a crossbow during an archery season. However, disabled hunter permittees in possession of a crossbow special use permit may hunt with a crossbow in any season that allows archery equipment.

     (f) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with any arrow or bolt that does not have a sharp broadhead, and the broadhead blade or blades are less than seven-eighths inch wide.

     (g) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a broadhead blade unless the broadhead is unbarbed and completely closed at the back end of the blade or blades by a smooth, unbroken surface starting at maximum blade width and forming a smooth line toward the feather end of the shaft, and such line does not angle toward the point.

     (h) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a retractable broadhead.

     (i) It is unlawful to hunt wildlife with any bow or crossbow equipped with a scope. However, hunters with disabilities who meet the definition of being visually impaired in WAC 232-12-828 may receive a special use permit that would allow the use of scopes or other visual aids. A disabled hunter permit holder in possession of a special use permit that allows the use of a scope or visual aid may hunt game birds or game animals during archery seasons.

     (2) Rules pertaining to long bow, recurve bow and compound bow archery:

     (a) It is unlawful for any person to hunt big game animals with a bow that does not produce a minimum of 40 pounds of pull measured at twenty-eight inches or less draw length.

     (b) It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with any arrow measuring less than 20 inches in length or weighing less than 6 grains per pound of draw weight with a minimum arrow weight of 300 grains.

(4) A violation of this section is punishable under RCW 77.15.400, 77.15.410, or 77.15.430, depending on the species hunted

Zoom the picture to 200% you can clearly see some sort of electronics, no way to deny that

Unfortunately there are a lot of folks that read the regs to state that you can use a bow during firearm season with a bow tag just wear orange.  But legally you must posses the licence for that season.  as for the weapon.  A bow can be used any time your choice and a lot of folks do buy rifle tags so they can hunt with a bow during the rut.  If I were to post a picture of a bow kill during the rifle season, that would be the first thing that I stated so the grills wouldn't be turned on immediately.

Do these rules apply to hunting with archery equipment during a modern season?

I assumed it was an archery season so that is why I asked if it was a joke.  I was just thinking of the guy last year or the year before who used the stabilizer mounted video camera to film his hunt and ended up getting contacted by a warden.  Don't remember if he was cited for it.

So far he has told us all about the shot but not addressed what it is? Sorry but if you post on a public forum you are putting yourself out there for scrutinizing. I agree 100% that the deer is awesome. I am indeed jealous of the deer. However, what is it? I don't want to speculate any more than the next guy but I didn't post a pic of me with a deer and suspecious equipment. If he didn't want to be questioned he should not have posted.

They do apply to using archery equipment during a modern season. Whereas if you use a muzzleloader during a modern season you don't have to follow the restrictions regarding ignition, sight, or double barrels which are restricted during muzzleloader season.

Interesting that they apply for archery but not muzzy.

I am confused if its not a flashlight then what is it?   You keep dancing arround the question.  Red button on the end looks like on off switch to me.  Like the Rules say ILLEGAL.  But hey you got a sweetass Buck so who cares right

Seems it would have been smarter to post a picture WITHOUT the bow and flashlight.   :dunno:
