375 H&H
«
on:

Anyone have one? I have a chance to buy one in a Sako with the full length Mannlicher stock, (did I mention I've always wanted one?) it's the carbine model so has a 20" barrel. I am under no illusion that I will be able to fully ring out all the potential for velocity, but thought it would make one hell of a good handling short to mid range gun for Africa/Yukon Moose/ Large bears. Any opinions would be appreciated, especially if your familiar with the 375 H&H.

I love the .375 h&h. One of the most under appreciated cartridges out there.

a friend killed a buff and a sable antelope this past year with a pre-64 70 in 375 h&h...said it performed fantastic and was shooting it at the range at 200 yards.

Get it. It would make a good deer rifle too, out to 300 yards. And an awesome elk rifle. Some people will say it's "overkill." I'd tell them there is no such thing. You can't kill something too dead.

I have a Sako .375 with blued barrel, (which to me is it's down fall), I'm a stainless kind of guy, but absolutely love that gun. Big things that I have hit with have gone down with one shot... Period.... To include Buffalo, Bears and Moose.... Also, To me, it kicks less than my .338 does, maybe kicks diferent is the way to state that... More of a push than a punch..

If/When I can afford everything I want I'll have one. For the simple reason it was long considered a standard to be measured against.
I think it's one of the calibers every rifle fan ought to have; 30-30, 30-06, 45-70...

We use to have a piece of metal up in one of the rock pits we use to shoot at. I don't remember how thick it was but there was only one gun we ever got to shoot threw it. And that was the .375 h&h with 270gr and 300gr jacketed bullets. And we shoot every thing at it. From .22's to .458mag.
