Battle ground unit
« on: November 03, 2010, 05:59:40 PM »
Does anyone know if they still have the late any sex deer hunt in battleground?  ( I think it went to Dec 31st) I know in years past they did but it was firearm restricted. I did not see anything in the regs for this year. This is the first year in the last 13 that I have not killed a deer. I will be hunting out of state during late buck, so I was hoping for a second chance when I got back.   Thanks

They got rid of the long season, I was told by an officer that the harvest numbers were getting a bit high for the number of people they saw hunting in the GMU.  They figured that people were shooting does whereever they wanted after the season in their area was over and reporting them as taken in battleground.

That seems odd. If someone poached a deer why would they bother to report it at all?

I think they did away with the extended modern firearm season in Battleground because of the pressure. That was the one and only unit open to people with modern firearm tags after the regular late blacktail season was over, and undoubtedly everybody with an unfilled tag would head down there. So what they did is they opened it up to both archery and muzzleloader hunters for their late seasons.

Muzzleloader is to Dec. 15. Archery goes to Dec. 31st.

They did away with the late season, reason they gave at the time was the regulations were too confusing. I guess they were too confusing to those that didn't read the regs in the first place.
