I have it in both ears and have for about 15 years now. Its called Tenatus (spelling). Its permanent and comes from shooting guns all my life. Its done now but if I know I will do alot of shooting, I use plugs now to prevent further loss of hearing

I am in the same boat. I've had it for 15 years myself. I cannot hear ANYTHING below a certain tone level because of it. I'm used to it and other than the hearing loss it does not bother or affect me any more. Do I wish it were gone? CERTAINLY! However, I've learned to deal with it.

On the bright side, when I ignore my wife I just use the excuse "babe, I didn't hear a word you said!" :chuckle:

I hurt mine really bad one weekend when I decided to shoot my ultra compact 1911 without earplugs. Couple of my buddies had no issues, but I was in pain and discomfort the rest of the weekend. It probably lasted 2-3 days and the doctor said i most likely did some permanent damage. I never went back to have my hearing tested though like he wanted me to. I'd love some electronic noise canceling ear plugs. They're spendy, but what is your hearing worth right? I already spent $3000 plus on laser eye surgery, teeth are next, then maybe some fancy earplugs.

I have ringing in both ears from years of competition rifle and pistol shooting back before ear protection was a requirement.

My hearing is pretty good, but I still have ringing in my ears. From time to time it just starts up then fades away, but if it is quiet enough I can always hear it.

Always carry some ear plus (the kind of a plastic band that goes around my neck) while hunting. If I have time to put it in, which is only a few seconds, I will before the shot. Sooooo nice to hear a thump than that painful bang and ringing ears for two days.

I would recommend custom moulded ear plugs.  I have three pairs that are for different uses, including motorcycle riding.
I also have a pair of moulded electronic ear plugs.  One side never functioned properly.  However, I do use the good one for shooting at the range when you want to hear people talking paired with one of the other non electronic plugs.  The downside to using electronics while hunting is having amplified (bionic) hearing that makes everything sound like it's right on top of you.  You will not have any directional awareness with the electronic plugs.
Because of that I normally wear a single standard moulded in my left ear while bird hunting.  This allows directional awareness when a bird flushes and protects my most exposed and previously damaged left ear.

:yeah:  You only get one set of ears.  I'm borderline tone deaf to a few tones from being in the "RG" vehicles for a year in Baghdad.  I'll admit I have been hunting this year without protection but next time I'm on Ft. Lewis, I plan to grab a few combat plugs.

I've had the ringing for years, don't know what started it. It comes and goes but if I think of it, its always there. I think my hearing is good but there's some deep tones I don't hear well. It really bugs me when Boneaddict grunts a moose and I can't hear the moose answer until it gets close.

Many years back I bought a .357 with a 4in ported barell. The first time I fired it my ears hurt so bad I thought I'd find fluid running down my neck.  I bought it for a trail gun so....I fired all 8 rounds. My ears were ringing some for about 12 hours...
