First Elk
« on: November 07, 2010, 08:16:30 PM »
Shot my first elk 4 minutes into opening day.  Nice 3pt dbl eyeguards.  Shot it using a Savage 110 leupold 3x9 30-06 180gr at 113yards.  It was a very hard hunt.  Walked out my dads back door, suprise suprise there they were.  Took a rest on an old greenhouse table and waited for enough light to see what I was shooting.  Dropped him on the first shot (a bit high).  There was another legal bull in the herd but all of the cows surrounded him and my dad couldn't get a clean shot eventhough they stayed in the field confused for about 2 minutes.  They finally left so we went out hooked up the pickup and drug him up to the barn where we winched him up and gutted him out.  Darn hard hunt!!!    Oh yeah GMU 658

Yeah I'm pretty proud if you cant tell.  My wife actually "TOLD" me to get it mounted.  Who am I to argue??  Dropped it off at the taxidermists later that day.   Cant wait

Nice Bull!!! Thats my kind of hunt. I spent two days in the woods getting soaked with my son, we had a great time and saw lots of elk just no shooters. Congrats on a nice bull.
