.22 rifle

so I have been thinking about getting a .22 for some time now and was wondering what is good for the money and what is just an all around good accurate gun.

welcome to the site! the ruger 10/22 is probably the most popular 22 around. very accurate little gun. they are around 190-230 you can find them on sale from time to time. they are the best bang for the buck in my mind.

I have been using a Ruger 77/22 and it is pretty accurate. I finish shooting a target by shooting the staples to take it down.  Not sure of the price, I picked it up used.

I have a marlin 60 tube fed that is super accurate 21in barrel.  But you have to load them into the tube so either you put 1 bullet straight in the chamber or pull the tube out and load more than one.  If you only need 1 shot like for a grouse then good, but plinking is not as fun.   My Ruger 10/22 is pretty nice because its clip fed and of course I have the 50 round clips so plinking is a blast with it.  Ruger has all kinds of mods and they are everywhere I would get the ruger.

Marlin Micro Groove barrels -- All the Way!  I have a Model 60 and four or five older Marlins, 50's vintage, they are all tack drivers!  The 60's are hard to clean IMO but good guns.

All good choices.  For peak accuracy, go with the bolt IMHO.  However, I have both the Rem. bolt and the 10-22.  I'll grab the 10-22 90% of the time, just more fun to shoot, and the accuracy diff is negligible.

Go with the 10/22 they are like a 57 Chev they are a classic and lots of add ons for customization later on down the road if you want to really trick your gun out

You can get them for $200 nowadays for the base model, which are accurate, but with a few small inexpensive improvements (barrel/scope/...possibly trigger assy) they can be amazingly accurate. My dad just bought the walnut version 2 weeks ago and loves it

My son loves his 10/22. Fun gun and accurate. I still prefer my model 61.

I have a Remington 552 Speedmaster that was built in 1957.

The Model 552 BDL Speedmaster is the only American-made 22 autoloader that handles 22 short, 22 long, and 22 long-rifle cartridges interchangeably. Like its pump-action counterpart, it features adjustable big-game sights, positive cross-bolt safety and grooved receiver for scope mounts.

I have a 3-9x40 scope on it and it will shoot very tight groups at 100yds and beyond. My dad bought it when I was about 6 from the neighbor for $50. My kids love shooting it.

 My son has one, he is nine and ready for something a bit biggger. I'm not sure how young of a hunter you are, but I bet you would get tired of the single shot real quick.

CZ is the most accurate rifle you will find for the money.  sharp looking too.

I'll agree on the CZ!  But, for the price, you can't beat the savages or stevens.  I think the CZ's are around 300, you could get a stevens for about half that.
