Finely got my first deer
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:26:09 AM »
As some of you know I moved to south Dakota this year.  The upside is I have 5 deer tags, the down side is 4 are doe tags.  The real upside is that i went hunting with my brother and stepdad this weekend and we had some luck.  We spotted a group of about 6 deer bedded down on the side of a hill at about a half mile.  We used a few slews and a couple of hills for cover and started to close the distance.  We closed to what we thought was the best place to take a shot and slowly worked our way up a hill.  We crawled to the top and put glass on them, we were a little farther away than we wanted to be so we backed down the hill and worked our way around that hill and up to another that was a little closer.  We crawled up that hill and were about 115 yard away.  We had a good Angle on them and we all fired at about the same time.  My first shot hit one of the deer right through the left shoulder and she did not get up.  I then sighted in on another deer that had run about 75 yards and turned to take a look at what had happened.  I hit her and she dropped on the spot.  it was awesome.  My brother thought that the first deer that I hit was his and by the time we got it sorted out he had already put his tag on it, but it is all good.  I have 2 more doe tags for mod firearm and 2 archery tag.  And there is still a hole lot of season left out here.

Good job!  Nice looking Doe.  Put those Doe tags to good use looks like you have a sizable family to keep fed this winter.  Wish I was still close enough to hunt GA.  we were allowed to shoot 12 deer a year.  Ten doe, two bucks (1 buck, 4 point or better on one side)  :bash:

Thanks guys, she was pretty big and had a lot of fat on her.  All of the corn around here make for some big deer.

OUTSTANDING!!!

Congratulations.  May there be many more in your sights over the years.  I suspect many may come from out of state.
