public land
« on: November 27, 2010, 06:40:31 PM »
I just talked to my buddy about his late hunt. I was jaw dropped to hear what he had to tell me.
   For starters he went up to the Sinlahekin for the late hunt for the first time. He ended up getting there and set up camp with a few guys he knew. He was polite and asked if anyone had any spots that where favs so he did not end up getting in there way. No one had anything to say so off he went. first couple of days he say a few smaller bucks but no shooters. He said the preasure was out of controle so he startred fallowing tracks into the deep holes to get away from all the yahos. With some luck he found a deep and steep hole with four great buck one was pushing 170!
  Here is the crap! so that night he made it back to camp without getting a good shot and was planning on heading in the next morning. That night at camp a guy showed up asking if anyone had been seeing bucks. He said i have seen a few good bucks and that was all he said. The guy asked him what he was driveing and went on to tell him that he saw his truck parked in a local only area YEP you heard me right a local only area. The guy told him if he was to go back up there to hunt that it would be a long day and the locals would make sure he didnt make it back!!!  Being worried about guys slashing tires or other things he headed hom the next morning. This is BS i just wanted to know what the rest of you thought about this kind of crap.

Park the truck, get about 100 yds away with a clear view, and wait.  One yell of warning, would be all they get.  Public land is public land.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

That is total bull.  I would have made it quite clear to him that I am carrying a firearm and I would welcome anyone to try to assult me.  Did the other guys at the camp hear him say it?  They should have contacted the local Sheriffs Department.
I hunt therefore I am.

I was thinking the same thing or at least set up a trail camera watching the truck to catch whatever happened on film.

Trail cam would be a great idea. It is sad that we need to carry a cam just to hunt away from the hunt.
 The guys theat he camped with said they didnt want any trouble so it would be great if he didnt go back up there to hunt. What a bunch of weak minded men!!! I dont  understand what people think public land means!

I'd back his ass down. Don't take it from anybody when it comes to public land. Local or not not you or anybody else has claim to hunting rights. Stick up for what is pubic or people like this will continue to have the run of the place.

Sounds like we need to get about 20 rigs over there park them and let him go on his hunt and make sure nothing happens to his rig while he is gone  ;)

No r e s p e c t, what is wrong with these people? My buddy encountered the same thing when he shot his Elk last season, and 2 guys approached him that the Elk he shot was theirs. Luckily my buddy was Samoan, there were seven of them, he gave them an offer they couldn't refuse. So they left in a hurry..
There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter.

where do you guys hunt?  I have always gotten along with the locals I have met on the coast.  I am not sure what I would say if some yahoo said that.  Probably set them up with a camera.

I believe if it was me, that situation would have been settled shortly after that joker said that to me. I know its not too smart to start confrontations with likely both people being armed, but I don't think I could have had someone say that to me and not had some sort of "conversation" with that POS.
