« on: December 07, 2010, 10:32:39 PM »
I really am not understanding why it's antlerless only i'n the late season i'n the Winston that is some of the best hunting and we deserved the right to fill our bull tag!

I see 15 GMU's on the westside that are open for bull elk. Only 3 units that are antlerless only. So it just sounds like you're in the wrong unit if you want to hunt for a bull.   :dunno:

We sure do see some nice bulls though when it is cow only.

Never fails..have the same thing happen in the Ryderwood unit..but it is what is I guess. I had opportunities early, and they'll only be bigger next year..

Actually I am an archery hunter, and didn't kill a bull in the early season, and hunt a gmu that is anterless only during the late season. I really don't mind that it's anterless in the late season, I had my chance in the early season, and if a branch bull made it through the gauntlet of all 3 of the main seasons with as many hunters as there are these days and as much road access as there is, he's earned it to make it through the rest of the year. There's nothing wrong with letting them get bigger for next year, because as a bow hunter, we get first crack at them next year anyway.   :twocents:

Well put... I just never have been a doe or a cow hunter just how i was raised... I do know u got to thin out the cow population as well as the bull to get better genetics... But on the other Hand it's just as easy to go to the store especially with all the ppl driving around drives me crazy :bash:

Really? How does killing cow elk give the elk herds better genetics ???  I thought it was just to keep the bull to cow ratio balanced.   :dunno:
