Bad news.....
«
on:

My best bud and I just got back from the vet. He started chocking last week, and it had only gotten worse. So they stuck him with a neddle and 10 min. later they said he had cancer. The doc gave him 2-8 weeks to live. I figure the first day he can't get up on his own or won't eat, will be the day.
This sucks!

my chocolate lab Gator (10 years old) got a lump on his front knee and his toenail split from another growth.....took him to the vet and it was cancer....still can't come to terms with it but put him down 2 years ago....considered myself a "hard" man but cried my eyes out when it happened...I feel your pain brother and would like to say it gets easier over time but still miss him every time I open the safe as he would come running...I remember we used to archery elk hunt in Manastash and would take him over scouting during the summer camping....he would stay awake all night growling at the elk that were walking around camp ( we could hear them also)... I loved that dog but I guess we all know deep down that someday we will all outlive them...don't know if that outweighs the good times we have during their stay with us but as the song goes "every rose has it's thorns".....i'd like to think that we will hunt again in the afterlife...

Sorry to hear about your freind.
My Rot/Shepard has a growth on her leg. I know it is cancer. She will turn 13 on Chritmas day.
She also has a knee injury(tendon tear) from some *censored* shooting her with a bb gun while I was elk hunting. She tore the tendon trying to run away from them in the yard.
She has difficulty walking and getting up. She has started losing weight. Noemally she has a thick coat. This year, thin coat.
I am working on when to make the call.

Put my two old labs down this past spring and summer with Cancer. I know what You me3an about the tears on a strong man. Couldn't hardly see to drive home!!! After wrestling with it for a few months, We got a new pup. Best thing is she looks nothing like the other 2. I forgot how smart they can be from the get go. At 65 I hope I have the energy to keep up with Her!! She is in puppy class now, and we will start the field trial training together in March. Dad has 35 National plates, so she has the smarts and go, if I can keep up.
Sorry about your dog, but I highly recommend a new pup ASAP.

Thanks ya'll! It was a rough night and morning, but I think I'll try and stay happy. I think he could tell something was wrong last night when when he was sitting in my lap, and I was crying my eyes out.
I tell ya, just a week ago I thought I had another year with him. Now all I can think about is what a great dog he has been, and how many times I let him down.
Got to go.. Tearin up again.

Man, I just hate to hear that. I truly feel for you. I can't even read these posts without getting teary eyed. I've got a 12year old lady black Lab at home-still going strong, but know I could be in your shoes any day from here on out. Whatever you do, don't watch the movie Marley and Me.

Enjoy your time with him. I have had to put down two labs due to cancer. It never gets easy.

This is always tough, its never easy to get this kind of news about your hunting partner and best friend. My Lab past of cancer while i was commerical fishing in Alaska, i wasn,t informed of it until i got home. I am glad my family waited until i got home to tell me or i would have been a mess up there. Enjoy every minute you possibly can!
