Fox in Washington

Ok I have lived in eastern WA for almost 21 years and don't recall ever seeing a fox here.  Actually central WA.  So help me out.  Are there any fox in this part of the state?  Any decent populations of fox anywhere in the state?

Yes, decent, not sure about decent population, but there are a number of them.  We've even had members here shoot a few.

I saw one several times in Cinebar in 1998.  Foot hold traps were set, but we only got a bitch coon.

Grew up in Tri Cities and never saw one when I lived there. Two summers ago I was doing some fishing back there and saw two in Burbank, along the Columbia.

Seen a few in Capitol Forest riding my dirtbike on the trails, they'd hop out in front of me and run down the trail as i followed them then they would find a good spot to bail out off the trail again. It always shocked me seeing one cause their so small an odd looking. The red/burgandy color is pretty cool.

saw one last year by the Quincy lakes when we were out camping in mid April. Walking along the top of the cliff looking down on Dusty and we saw it. Surprised the heck out of me to see one out there.  Also seen a few up past Ashford many years ago.

I've seen a few in the winter up at Paradise on Mt. Rainier.
I dont know what kind of fox they are but their totaly gray/silver.

I shot one last year in Whitman county. I've hunted that spot for 30 years. The 86 year old farmer had never seen one and he was born there. I really couldn't believe my eyes. Damn cool little critters.

Last march my wife's cousin from Ohio was visiting and took pics of the one by paradise on Mt Ranier he has learned to get food from passing motorist.Also saw a red one on south shore of hood canal near Belfair.

My dad saw one in Pasco off Sandifur while riding his pedal bike at 5:30 am.  He said it ran like crazy when it saw him.  I've also heard of some hangin out by the orchards off Columbia river road and out at Burbank too.

I personally haven't seen any know of someone that's seen them around Goldendale few years back.

In my 40+ years in WA I've only seen one fox, and that was in the Wenatchee National Forest.  Foxes and Coyotes compete for the same food, and where coyotes outnumber foxes and are bigger, the foxes get run out if they are found in Coyote's territory.  There are a few in open country, but they mainly stay in the wooded brushy country.

I saw 2 while hunting near Colville.  Watched them play for 10 minutes.

There is a decent population in Tacoma especially around Titlow beach.  If you drive around there at night you'll see a few.  Also, I would always see fox on Fircrest golf course.

I saw one in 2003 on the top of Loop Loop Pass, during modern deer season.

 I saw a cute little red fox at the Nissqually Delta boat launch a week ago. He didn't want to leave either. Must have  found something good.

I have only ever seen one down here.  It was a silver phase in the Siouxon about 15 years ago.  It was in the Gifford Pinchot so you cant hunt them there.

I've seen 4 or 5 dead on the road in city limits as well as one fighting with a housecat in the middle of the road. For those of you that know Pasco, it was on the corner of Sylvester/rd 60.

NO WAY!!! I HAD NO IDEA WE HAD FOXES AROUND HERE.   I NEED TO GET OUT MORE OFTEN.

Oh the memories... Hanging with the foxes of Wilson, Curtis, Bellerman Prep, Foss... down by the tracks of Titlow Beach. I spent half my youth down by that old ferry landing. Willits dock was owned by my uncle Lonie.  Never did see a 'canid' fox down there. Plenty of Quail there. Makes sense for some foxes to be around.

The town of Fircrest and I didn't get along though. Neve spent much time on that course.

There's literally probably a number in the thousands on San Juan Island alone.  I'm not sure why you can't shoot them up there, but drive around at night and they're darting across the road left and right.  They are the apex predator out there and seem to be doing well enough to have wiped out the turkey, quail and few released pheasant.  I wish we could get them there, they need to be cleaned out a little IMO.

I shot 2 on january 2nd. Missed one running away yesterday. I've seen 7 since september. I have one on the wall that I killed in 2009. I know where they hang out 
I love hunting them. I've killed 6 total here in washington.

Those are my family's orchards and there are definitely foxes in them a whole family, last year there were 2 that got hit on the road.  They've been around awhile, I was pretty shocked when I first saw them.  We've also got quite a little raccoon problem out there.

my wifes grandpa used to shoot red foxes all the time in Morton. they we're worse than coyotes. they were constantly getting the chickens.

There are good numbers of some of the san juan islands, and when my boyfriend and I dropped off his elk last year at a taxidermist near Gig Harbor there was one a block away from the fellow's house. They're pretty few and far between.

There was a dead one at the bottom of Ryegrass coming into E-burg on I90 last night.  Looked like an adult.

There was an article in the Lewiston Tribune recently about the foxes at Mt Rainier.  Guess they've become accustomed to receiving handouts from people.  It's causing a problem mostly with them getting run over.

Saw a flat one on Hwy 12 in Pataha this weekend.

i dusted one by quincy up the palisades a few years back have seen alot of solid black with white tipped tails up the ahtanum i seen 4 in one day up there on a elk gutpile

I've seen several around Pasco, Kennewick, and Burbank. A few years ago there was a litter of pups running around the port of pasco. Saw them quiet frequently. I've also seen a few between the palouse and the blues.

Up archery hunting in the Naches for elk 2 years ago when I had a permit for branched bulls. Walked back to my tent after peeing just at dawn and a pure black one with white tip on his tail was eating my damn granola bar I had only taken one bite of. My bow was hanging from a tree just out of my reach before he blew out!!!!!

I live in Klickitat county and hunt for them every winter.  I only take one as I love to see them and don't want to hurt the population.  But we see anywhere from 20-40 in about 10 trips out.  The last time I was out saw 4.  There around but sneaky.
