Antler characteristics
« on: June 09, 2007, 03:05:57 AM »
Its been awhile since we had a poll.  This is a two part poll.  What kind of a trophy would you rather shoot.  Part one will deal with configuration, while part two deals with favorite characteristics.

You're right, but then it wouldn't be much of a poll.  I want to know your favorite if you had to choose

I voted for mass.. but my real favorite is webbing and wide flat spots on the tines.

Had to choose mass on this one, although tine length is a favorite.  In my experience though, usually good mass will carry good tine length as well.

I voted that I don't care, until last year I didn't even bother hunting deer.
When I finally did, it was only for meat.

I'm kind of an anti-trophy hunter, I like to take "ordinary" critters out of the gene pool, I'd rather leave the biggest and best for seed.

If there was one characteristic that I would choose, it's not on the poll.
It's symetry, in antlers.

To me a perfectly matched set, no matter what configuration, speaks to me.
I'm not impressed with funky genetic mutations, causing junk sticking out everywhere, or malformed growth.

My brother's got a 2x2 mule deer rack, that is one of my favorites, a perfectly shaped coat rack like a carpenter built it.

Sarcasm; just one of the many services I offer.

The cabin I used to hunt out of near Conconully had a heavy, tall, wide 2 point that I just loved.  It was shot in the 50's, but the story goes that it was a huge bodied deer that had regressed back to a 2 point.  *censored*s broke in and stole that bugger a few years back.

If it has browtines to make it legal, I'd drop a big two point any day.
