Gator trip yesterday.
« on: January 02, 2011, 10:32:26 AM »
After canceling our trip with Cohoho for Saturday due to expected winds we decided to hit one of our lower river spots. The day started out very cold but with the help of the heater we were able to get the top put up and soon we were fishing. We sat on the normal hole most of the day without getting a nibble. The current was riping so bad that 40 oz balls were not working very well. Finally I had to drop the anchor and go for a drive to see if we could mark any fish. After about 20 min of looking around we couldn't mark a single fish. We moved to another spot that I had never fished but just happend to notice some fish on the finder when I was running over them on the way to another spot. We set up and gave it a try. After a little time be started getting bites. Trapperguys wife showed him how to hook them and we were on our way. We were getting allot of them "winter nibbles" as Cohoho calls them. The second fish hooked up put up a good little fight and soon we had it in the boat with the tape stretched over it. Traperguy got lucky with a 38" fish. He had just been telling me he always gets his keeper when he fishes sturgeon.
we ended up landing 4 fish I think. It was a fun day and wasn't to cold unless you were outside. I found out that them gators like nuclear shrimp just like every other fish I have tried my nuclear waste on. ;)

I only ended up with the one pic but I think Traperguy and his wife got a few good pics. We will do it again soon Traperguy! :brew:

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Right on.  It can be tough to find biters this time  of year.  Good job.  We ended up going clear up to the dalles and fishing off the bank.  Too many guys wanted to go to fish the boat.  We caught 15 shakers and hooked two oversize that snapped off in that dang cable.  Shrimp and squid were the ticket.  They usually would hit smelt, but not that day.

You guys were wise to stay low.  The wind was howling in that mid section of river around bonny.  Blowing the truck around on the way up.  No wind at the dalles, but never really have had a windy day up there.  Must be sheltered some how.  There were some guys getting ready to fish near stevenson that had to got blown off the river.

Number #1 reason why we didn't go up that day, thanks for the wind report as it makes me feel better as I really wanted to get out.  Should have went with Fishcarzy, atleast he got out..
