Very nice cat Joe.  Congrats to all involved!  I hear all this talk about length of a "skinned" cat.  I've never heard of a cat ever measured after it was skinned. :dunno:  Back in the day, if you got a 8 footer, he was a giant!  No hounder I've ever heard of ever measured the skinned cat.........oh wait, maybe that's where all those 8 footers came from........... :chuckle: -just a little fun :)-

Yeah Dang Nice Cat.  Thats Exactly what I am working on find a Nice Tom,   Since I got draw,  danm kids kept shooting all Small and some Average Cat to get Quota Closed FASTER than Ever.  Oh well.  At least I had fun.

Congt to you all Tags holder!   Maybe you all can join my Tag soup dinner.   :chuckle:

Mulehunter  :)

Mulehunter my area is about to close too. It only opened on Jan 1st and there is only 1 female left. I don't need to shoot a young cat, but I do understand someone who has never got a cougar wanting to get what ever they can get before the season closes down. I don't blame the hunters, I blame the system, it sucks, but I do have to admit it is better than no season at all. If there 2 things I could change, they would be:

1.  Issue only the number of tags for the number of cougar they want killed, figuring in an average percentage of success. Those tags are good for the season.
2.  Issue unlimited over-the-counter pursuit tags for a "Behavior Modification Season".

Its completely understand and clear. I know how WDFW really want this to be way they want. So its all good and I wanna Hound permit to keep going every year. I dont want to drag Biologlist OUT of my Canyon. Because They want to keep Data with how many Cats out there to show Governement it need to be hunt by hounds. I completely SUPPORT! But MORE I am ANGRY is about they REFUSE let me chase this Trax while Biologlist can follow us and make this kill if I want Cat or Collar. Its about being Relationship with WDFW and Houndmen. I guess they dont want to be Part of it. Anyway I respect them and Abort my hunt.

I don't think they handled your situation correctly. If I remember correctly, you found the tracks and were pursueing and they asked you to leave. If they didn't want hunting in that area, it should have been closed area. To leave it open to hunting and then chase you off was just "WRONG".

They could have looked for a different cat to run.  :twocents:

Sorry for jacking your thread blkbearkllr.  :)

We have measured skinned hides since the late 70's, just something we liked to do. Generally a cat gains about 1 foot when you skin it.

It makes sense now bearpaw.  They seemed about a foot off to me. :)  I should have measured my 7'11" after it was skinned, it might have grew an inch to a 9 footer!!! :chuckle:

Dale no problems.

As for measuring skin on skin off, I honestly do not care. My first and probably only cougar. I am extremely happy with it. I am glad Dale talked me into holding out on it.

As for measuring it when it was skinned. Take it to your taxidermist, and tell them it was only 6 foot on the paw and see what they tell you..  ;) Cause you can bet your bottom they are going to stretch it to get that skinned length.

:chuckle:....................Never heard of a taxidermist that charged more for a 6' lifesize than a 7' lifesize??? :dunno:

really??

That is why there are either limits like 1000-1500.00 or you see 2200.00+

Since a cougar lifesize to have it tanned a taxidermist pays by the foot. Would be crazy not to charge more since a 7 foot cat will cost more in supplies than a 6 foot. Just saying...

Saw the head of the beast Yesterday, nice kitty, very freaking nice...  I want one now...  Can't wait to see it mounted Joe, either 10 foot or 6 foot it is a freaking nice cat.  Totally awesome video of the hunt too, I enjoyed it for sure, so did my kid, who actually stated he wants to hunt again - but for a Cat.  Great job to Dale for putting you on to it...

Wow there has been some cats hitting the ground, that opened on the 1st. And there was 5 females or 13 total, A cougar a day. Well good job to everyone. And congrats to the approx 670 deer that will survive from being eating by cougars this year.
