Well they didn't say to much besides how they are tracking elk up there. And that they will not be done with the study until 2012. Someone brought up the wolf issue and they said they weren't there to talk about it. They did say that all wolves in wa. were not transplanted. They came from Canada. They did a DNA test to prove that they are a strain from there. It sounds like there will be a closure up in the colockum every year in the winter.

Anyone mention the natives excessive hunting? I know its :beatdeadhorse:

A co worker was up there snowmobiling last weekend said he saw 200+ cows and only 3 short tined spikes.

No they didnt. They did ask about them getting keys to gates on dnr land. One guy there said to start writing letters to state reps to try and deal with it.

Sounds like some wdfw people just want to pass the buck and not deal with a hot topic. Why is it always write your congressman or senator if you want to get anything done. Why do we have to drag someone else into the problem to make those who are actually directly involved do their job. We need leaders with a plan not followers.
God Bless,
Scott

Went, and a lot of info on the program that is in place collecting data that will be released in the fall of 2012. Road`s and there effect along with atv/vehicle was brought to the table as well. Not much info until the 2012 reports are tallied. The herd is sustaining to its projected 4500 head count. Calf survival has been low the last two years although they did say the data was not 100% to actually base that to.
Nothing mentioned about the tribal except the info the tribe is sharing with the department on their collared elk program from down on the rez. and how it might help with the program for the colockum herd. They have 50 elk collard in the colockum herd that gives a reading every 8 hours per elk. Over all it was a very informative meeting on what the dept. is trying to do to collect and educate them selves and the public. Technology has really helped in the last few years to make a more accurate log to go off of.

Really, there usually are no elk in the areas that are open to snowmobiling. They are usually in the wintering range which is closed to sledding.

That area is closed for a reason. To keep people like your co-worker from harassing the elk. The return on that is better survival rate.

Not a big suprise! the last one I went to they  kind of came across like they were doing a manditory thing vs being there for real up to speed input on the issues at hand  :twocents:
