Bow ???
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:39:16 AM »
I was just curious what benifits would I get with a newer bow.  I shoot a Bear Truth set to the max.  I have had a couple Martins in the past that worked.  I have always been a if it works go with it on my bows.  They are tuned and shoot fine.  I have been very succesful with archery elk.  Was just curious cause I am not a tech guy on bows.

I'm with you... if it works, why replace it?  There's too many folks who buy into this whole "it's new, it MUST be BETTER"... listen to all the hype... take a bath on selling their "OLD/USED" bow and pony up to be the first kid on the block with the "Latest and Greatest"  (because some pitch man said so on TV or the Internet).  They rely on the fine tuning of the equipment... the latest means of putting a "bead" on the target, have to have the latest triggered release... need to have a range finder tell them which pin to use... throw more money at it until the new one comes out next week.  The retailers love it... so do the manufacturers... so do the guys surfing the classifieds.

I'm not going to say having the newest or latest and greatest is bad but I also agree if it works why change?

I think the only things you might gain from a new bow is speed, less hand shock, a smoother draw cycle, and weight. Most of the newer bows look a little different with the parallel limb design too. The cool thing about some of the new bows this year is you can find a bow for everything, there are short ATA bows for tree stand hunting, larger ATA bows, speed bows, and there are a few manufactures that are making bows with draw lengths up to 32".

Am I going to buy a new bow this year? Not as of right now, but there are some sweet bows out there.

You guys that have the new fast bows do you use your first pin from 0 to 30-40 yards. Also less weight would be nice.

I have a Matthews Reezen, and I have a 0-20yd. pin, and every 10 yards after that. The pins are close together though.

interesting read i thought.

http://archeryreport.com/2010/03/arrow-flight-fact-fiction-pin-40-yards/

i get 320fps with a target arrow and one pin to 40 will not even come close at that speed.
