I found that federal makes a 110 grain bullet for the 7 mag and am thinking about getting that for coyote. But I dont want to have to keep adjusting my gun for 110 grain and then 150 for deer or elk. But I figure 110 would not demolish the dog.

I use my 06 only rifle i own... I'm not in it for fur, if is was i'd just use ball ammo... 165gr fedral  trophy bonded bearclaw to the front shoulder @ 200yrds... Fur? ya not so much...

I bought some CCI Quik-Shok Varmint rounds for my 9yo son to use in his 10/22 for coyotes. We havent had a chance to shoot one yet with them - greedy ol Dad keeps taking his dog chances... - but I really want to see how they do. I think they are 32gr (or maybe 40?) with like 1650 fps and the hollow-point bullet is segmented to break up into 3 equal parts for better (or worse) damage. Not sure if these are new or what but I really want to see if they will take down a dog. Everyone keeps telling me they will but I dont have enough confidence in a 22lr to -or even his aim let him shoot before me! He does good at the range so I guess I just need to turn him loose. I am worried he will miss, or even worse, hit the yote and it wont stop him then its gone...

tripple....you should try those rounds yourself first so your confident with the shot placement and then see how the bullet does...
Prolly won't be able to use em past about a hundred yards tho i would think..

Yeah thats a really good idea. I was thinking closer to 50yds if using the 22! I guess I could head out without my boy sometime and check them out. I dont think he would like the idea of me shooting another one without giving him a shot and then using his rifle on top to boot!

 :)I would not think about using a .22 rimfire at all. If you were you could not have picked a worse load, you need the heaviest solidest they make, not a bullet designed for rats. 100 yards, yer out of yer mind. 20 yards maybe if you can get a ear shot.

Oh you'll kill a Yote with a 22lr. He is likely to run a REALLY long way first!

Shoot man - none of this is helping my confidence in the 22 rounds! I can usually get them to come inside 20-30yds at my Granite Falls spot but I guess my boy is just going to have to step up and shoot the 223!

A friend of mine shot a coyote with his .458 SOCOM.  Said there wasn't much left to look at, but it sure was fun!

Sorry, no pics.  I didn't see it myself, but he said there was a head, a strip of fur, and a tail.  Everything else was....gone!

I think someone may have stretched the truth just a little.    It may be a big bullet but it's moving awefully sloooooooooooowwwwwwww. I love gun stories. they make me happy.

Like I said--I wasn't there.  Only know what I was told.  Hearsay, and info on the internet fall into the same category.  They're worth every penny you pay.
