How long will a bear stay in an area?

I caught a glimpse of a bear this afternoon in some trees.  We tried various distress calls to lure it out of the trees, but no luck.

I didn't hear any crashing through the brush so I doubt we spooked it enough to run.  I believe it probably just wandered off deeper into the trees.

We decided to clear out for the evening in hopes the bear will settle down and stay in the area.
What are the chances it will really stay in those trees?  They are about the right age for the bear to eat and there are a lot of green grasses.
Will it be worth us going back and calling in there tomorrow at first light or should we expect it to move on and continue our search?

I am not sure about spring bear hunting, but in the fall if the berries are good, the bear in our area pretty well stay put. One year I missed a bear that I had two excellent shots at. Later on I found out my scope was off. Two weeks later I killed that same bear about 200 yards from where I had missed him previously. So my guess would be that that bear will be somewhere nearby.

I would be there first thing in the morning. Try to find a sunny hillside or any food source. Good luck.

Todd- Absolutely hunt there the next time you are out.  In 2005 I had a spring bear tag in the blues and I watched an area with the same bear and finally killed him after i had seen him for the sixth time.  You know he is there now just go close the deal.  Be patient he will move a lot and he will be in and out good luck keep us informed.

If he's regular, he's long gone. I'd go back first thing in case he's either constipated or has chronic diarrhea.

I would be there in the am.  I have seen them feed in and out of the timber in the morning then again in the afternoon.  Thats spring bear in oregon high up.  Lower elevations could be different.

Your odds are better to go when you know one has been than to spin the wheel and go random.  I have shot at a bear in a small field and came back the next day at the same time and he was there. If there is a reason to stay they will stay until forced to leave.  Bear are having a hard time making a living right now so something brought him there.
