OK so I am in the market for a new muzzleloader for elk hunting...what are the prefered choices you guys recommend. Calibers, brands etc.

Black diamonds are hard to come by. Some of the newer ones are easier to clean.

I own 2 dlack diamonds and love them, but they do have some quirks.

There is a lot of good info on the muzzys that are legal on here. I shoot a t/c black diamond xr 50 and my go to gun is a cva elkhorn.

I'm in the market for a muzzleloader too. I was looking this weekend and I thought the CVA elkhorn felt a bit cheap. I haven't held the Knight yet, but the Traditions Vortek sure felt good. I know there have been some negative things said about the Vortek but I would be curious to hear if anyone really likes them. I am really considering the Vortek based on fit and feel.

Knight Bighorn or Wolverine in .50 caliber with the proper ignition system. Or an older T/C Renegade in .54 cal. Dependable....and that is the key in muzzleloaders. Nothing worst than having a great shot and pop goes the cap, with no bang following. Believe me it happens with a lot of other brands.

TC Black Diamond XR Stainless Steel. She is my baby. Very accurate rifle and fun to shoot. Shot a muley over 100yds and she ran about 25 yds and dropped dead. I was absolutely amazed (since I could not hit the broad side of a barn). I would buy another one brand new if they still made them. My buddy has the shorter version and feels the same about his. He did not get the stainless steel barrel (wishes he did) and has been dealing with little spots of rust on the barrel (we have been hunting in the rain and I mean rain).
