Old Nootka Bear Pics
« on: January 23, 2011, 06:16:40 PM »
Found these today rummaging around some of my albums, thought I should throw them up. We would see these bears in Nootka, roaming the banks, busting open muscles and clams and eating them. You could easily hear them grunting and cracking the shell's, pretty cool.

Nice pics!! How many of them went down?

Shockey guides in that area, every once in a while when fishing inside the Sound, we would hear a rifle shot. The bear's are just everywhere. When the salmon start coming in, they migrate to the river-mouth's and can be quite a problem getting into fishermen's boat's on the dock's.

I like the white chest on the first bear. Make me wonder; Did an Asian Black Bear cross the strait and cross bread?  :dunno:

That is fairly common up there. If you ever watch Shockey's show intro, there is a huge, white fronted black bear from Vancouver Island area that stand's up right in front of the camera at around 15' away :yike:.
