Howdy New Guy
«

Howdy. I'm Wes. I live on the Wynoochee River north of Montesano.
I don't fish the river as much as I should but I love fishing the highland lakes up in the Olympics. I bow hunted for elk last year. Three shots at two different bulls. Lets just say a rangefinder is my new best friend. Over the next years I want to dedicate more of my hunting time towards elk. I have killed a cow so now I'm working on one with horns.
I've always used rifle for deer and that may change in a few years. I verminate the occasional yote that happens to show up around the house. For the last two years I've been trying to get a bear but haven't connected but am hoping to make it happen this year. I've been going to college at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and when I get home in 13 days hope to go turkey hunting. Off-roading my Jeep is my other hobby. Well that pretty much sums it up for me. If you have any questions feel free to ask. A few of you I recognize from BTC.
Here's a couple of pics of the elk in my lower field. Sorry they seem a little pixilated.

Welcome to the site....that field looks very familiar. I grew up in Montesano and used to frequent the valley almost everyweekend. Never really got into elk hunting out that way but used to hunt deer out blackcreek allot.

Welcome, you have some of the best (and biggest) grouse hunting I have ever seen up your river. Nice fish, deer, elk if it wasn't for the rain that would be paradise, LOL. J/K
Welcome aboard.

Sometimes it seems too often. I don't have much more on my computer but once I get home....
Hehe yeah well when these decoys sure are a hungry bunch.
A fresh growth of red clover in August tends to bring them in.
Well this isn't Black Creek. Hmm without telling everyone exactly where my parents place is.... and if It looks familiar. Maybe you happened to go fishing there. You have to park at our gate and walk down the driveway then down into the field. Or you could have hayed for us back in the early to mid 90s?
It's ok. Get up in the high country and the grouse are amazing, if it's a good year. As for elk and deer I could argue that point. Contrary to popular belief there aren't any big bulls up the Wynoochee, just raghorns. We do have plenty of long tails though.
Yeah I think you did.
Thanks all for the warm welcome.
If you've ever fished the Wynoochee then you might recognize this one.
Our barn and some of our buildings.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.
I forgot to say those three in the pic were killed on our place. First time my dad ever killed one on his own place. I had an archery tag that year.
As for that dog that is a long interesting story. Yes he is big. Two thats the fastest damn dog I've ever seen! Pardon the french. lol
Here's his story. I have his mother and she had two litters. I kept one from the first and my dad kept this one from the second. He is 1/2 Australian Shepard, and a 1/4 each of blue heeler and border collie. This combo makes him short and stout.
Don't let his weight fool you that dog can flat out fly. Mostly muscle but he carries a little fat on him. Hard to tell though cause he has really loose hide. He's also a strong swimmer. He'll swim the Noochee all day long. I've seen him swim that river during flood season. His bulk helps him float. Speaking of that. I weigh 120# and it takes all my weight to hold that dog down if he's trying to get somewhere. He's not a mean dog mind you. Scared to death of strangers and won't even go near them. Happens to be a trait of the Australian Shepards.
That dog is death to coons. He's been bitten on every part of the face possible. A coon can ball up on his head and he won't let go for the world. Last summer he got into a porcupine. Must of thought he was gonna kill it with one bite cause he drove quills strait through the roof of his mouth to where the points were barley sticking out the top. It happened on a Sunday so we couldn't go to a vet and my dad can doctor pretty good. We run about 60 head of Black Angus so we have vet supplies if we need them. Anyways we taped his legs together and I held a stick in his mouth and down. He fought for a while, but finally gave up. Me and my dad probably pulled 20 quills strait through the roof of his mouth with needle nose pliers. Not a whimper or whine from him.
Sorry if that was excessive but I felt it bore detailed explanation cause to try and make it short would be leaving too much out. I'm sure others were curious about him too.
