Got my first deer this year!
« on: February 08, 2011, 10:30:33 AM »
I'm new to the board and I feel like sharing my hunting story with you guys, even though it is well beyond the season (I just found the forum). Anyways, I live out on Whidbey Island and I see the deer all the time out there so I decided to go after one locally. Last year was my first year buying a tag and I hunted the Issaquah, Snoqualmie, and Teanaway areas. Didn't find myself 1 legal deer the whole time I was out there. Well this year was different, and I bagged my 2x2 on opening day. God is good. A 2x2 was my goal this year, so I figured I would take the first one I could get, and if I was unsuccessful then I would lower my standards as the season went on. Well by 9:30AM it was over. He took a 12GA federal powerball slug right behind the shoulder that exited through the middle of his ribs on the other side from about 20 yards. The brute literally just walked up the hill i was sitting on and I slowly raised my shotgun and just smacked him. He flopped over and that was that. I field dressed it there to the best of my ability with the help of a youtube video on my phone  :chuckle: and a family friend of ours (retired butcher) helped me debone it when I got back to the house. It was a great time, and I feel blessed. Weighed in at 66.5lbs of boneless meat that we took off the thing. Thanks yall for reading :) Anyone else here hunt the GMU 410?

Michael

The other point is in the shadow of my phone, so it's a little tough to see it. I love the face he's making for the camera  :P

Congrats on your first deer, good job!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

GREAT JOB! That really takes alot of guts to go out by yourself and handle the entire hunt, with no experience, from beginning (locating) to end (butchering) by yourself.  Good for you
