Any trappers on here?
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:54:05 AM »
I didn't set any out last fall but here is a few pics from the year before!

This one is going to the taxidermist instead of the fur dealer.

Sure a difference in the attitude with the first pics versus the latter ones.  :)   Cool pics.

I was gearing up for it, bought a bunch of traps off ebay and from folks and then BANNED

elkslayer,  What size traps do you use?  And about how many cats do you catch in a year?  Any advice you have on live trapping cats would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bigshooter

Bigshooter and BTKR,
Those traps are the Hava-hart Model 1081's. They are 13X15X40 I believe or right around there. You can pick them up at the sportsmans warehouse for 65.00 unless the price went up last year.
I just started trapping them three years ago. I got 12 the first year and 8 the second year. Didn't trap last year, but seeing what the fur prices were I wished I did now.
Cats are pretty easy to catch even in the cages if you set in a good location. If ya want send me a pm and I will let ya in on a little known secret for a good trap location. Dont want to throw it out there for everyone to see as it is pretty obvious once you know and an easy way for others to find your traps.
What I use for bait is grouse and pheasent carcasses, just wire them to the back of the trap. I also put a little scent lure on a stick and place it about a foot infront of the trap and off to the side a little. Cover the sides, top and back of the trap with branches or whatever, I use pine boughs they seem to work pretty good and help keep the snow out as well. I'll have to take some pics of some of my setups this year and post so you can see.

Forgive the ignorance, but once you have em in the trap, how do you finish them off? .22 to the head?

Just curious...cool pics.

I would love to get into trapping next year, does anyone have any advise they could give me?  On this thread or by PM.  Thanks
