Photos of NW Made Turkey and Locator Calls
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:32:55 PM »
I would like to start a thread where we post photos of our turkey and locator calls from Northwest Call Makers (both Pro and Hobby).  This thread would allow us to appreciate the quality of our NW calls and also give us some ideas on who we might go to purchase some new calls for this year's Spring Hunt.  Please indicate the type of materials used and how to inquire about purchasing them if you have some up for retail.

I have a couple of vintage Backwoods Friction Calls that I will take a picture of and post within a few days.  They are just part of my personal call arsenal.

Here's a few pictures of a couple of Backwoods Friction Calls.  The oldest is a Purple Heart Wood Call - Glass over Slate (My favorite) with a Purpleheart Striker and the other is a Zebrawood Call  - Glass over Glass with two strikers.

What NW call pictures can you share?

I have a hobby of making calls.  More of a folk art style.  I did make Earl Mickel's last book before he died.  Here are a few..I haven't been in the shop for 2 years due to other interests, but none the less I did make these.  LOL   :)  Imposter Calls is the name of my calls. I also dove into feather art, etc too.

Nice calls Rick..Can you get any reeds that would be similar to the high pitched sound of a woodpecker.  Those are my favorite locator calls for turkey hunting!

Jeepster - I think Backwoods Calls has gone out of business.

Quote from: Phantom Gobbler on January 31, 2009, 07:15:05 PM

My favorite call is a Backwoods glass friction call. It produces very sweet yelps, purrs and clucks and has worked really well when a bird is in close and I am calling for a friend.  Have had toms spitting and druming within 25 yards!  Call is purpleheart wood and is very handsomely done.  Not sure if they are still being made?

Phantom, they actually are shut down, i know both of the owners real well and niether have the time with jobs and family to pursue the business. But Shannon told me that if you do have any problems with their calls, broken surface or anything they will still fix them. It's a shame I thought and think they are pretty good calls and I believe they had M.D. Johnson helping them around the conutry to get some interest going. Hopefully in the future they'll come back
