Walupt Lake
« on: February 18, 2011, 06:47:16 AM »
Anybody have any idea how the deer hunting is out of Walupt Lake during modern firearm?  I'm wanting to go deep out into the woods and know that's some pretty rugged country.  Wasn't sure if it would be viable for deer or not.

Pretty sure its a draw. I think all eastside OR mule deer hunts for modern are draw. In my opinion OR isn't worth the  :twocents: anymore. It used to be a deal but they've pretty much doubled their rates. As far as Wallupt. I think all the deer hang out in the park :chuckle:

its not a draw, its in goat rocks. the deer a pretty spread out but as in any wilderness you have the potential to get a real monster

I've elk hunted there during archery (and it appears most people have as well) and never seen a ton of deer.  I'm told there are pockets that hold more deer, but I've never seen enough to make me want to put my eggs in that basket.

Interesting.  I spent a little time up there last summer and it sure looked like good deer country, but that was the extent of my research.  Given that, I really didn't have any clue.  I appreciate the responses.

I have a group of friends who elk hunt it every year for the last 15 years but have come home empty handed for the past few.  They say that even the deer population is dropping and not worth hunting up there anymore.   :dunno:

I spend a lot of time in the Randle/Packwood areas and in the Giff and honestly I rarely see deer let alone bucks. My dads neighbor though, who has grown up hunting that area, he and his hunting party seem to do well on getting into good bucks each year but they hunt the other side of Hwy. 12.

I've seen some big bucks in the goat rocks, but they are in deep and up high.during modern firearm the snow can be getting deep already,it was last year!a buddy his brother and i tried getting his nephew a buck it was 2 ft deep at trail head, had to hunt lower.
