end of the world guns

ok let me first say I am NOT one of THOSE guys that thinks that civilatation will crumble and anarcky will follow and I dont want this to turn to one of those debates, but just for fun lets say all that does happen and you have a little for warning, what guns and ammo do you lay in a stock pile of?  I am thinking ruger 10/22 do to its ability to take a licking and keep on ticking and cheap available ammo, remington 870 12 gauge with 2 barrels a long tom for hunting and a shorts for defence, I guess I'd have to have a ar of some kind cause everyone says you have to. and a ruger model 77 30-06 Id want one with adj. sights and I'd mount a leupold fixed 6. for a handgun any stainless ruger in any of the more popular calibers. all the guns I picked were picked for there durability and availibilty of ammo. again lets not get serious about this its just for fun JB

I already have them all except for two. I'd pick up an AR to add into the collection and a Remington 870 12 guage 3.5 inch.

I think it would be a mistake not to have an AR in the arsenal.

HK 91 maybe... .308 semi auto si always good maybe an ar also... a nice .308 or 30-06 bolt action....12 gauge pump....357...good knife...lots and lots of bullets for everything

You need 3 guns

 1. 7.62 x 39 in case the Chinese win .......Ak-47 etc

 2. 7.62 NATO .............AR 10

 3. .223 Rem ..............AR 15


that way all bases are covered.

I'd say a .308 sniper rifle.  Not only could you pick them off and hunt, but the ammo would be readily available.  You can bet the enemy will be using an ak-47 to take over our country, so the .308 makes sense...  I dunno, that's off the top of my head, never thought it through past the Red Dawn movie.

+1 on the H&K 91!  I had one with a 26" heavy barrel and could pick off a bunny rabbit at 600+ meters.  I wish that I had never traded it!    As far as the 10-22, I will never own another .  I have had nothing but bad luck with the 3 that I have had.  I gave them all away.

I'm set already but I agree an AR is definatly one of the "must haves". Remember should that happen, ammo will be used as money so fill up your safe.

I would agree with Ray about the AR,(5.56 nato)

I'm also with Shawn on the .308 sniper (7.62 nato), i do love a head-shot

And the 870 would be pretty handy too.

myself,, i would stay away from any and all semi autos. if it is a "end of days" sort of situation,, brownells sure wont be able to send you any parts, like gas blocks, sears, firing pins, followers etc... i wont trust my life to a 223. too complicated to totally break down during a crisis . may be easy in a shop or at home with lights,, but not when its dark and dirty.

for me, a mauser 98 8mm. cheap ammo.. fairly powerfull. that or any control round feeding rifle in 30 cal or bigger.  remington 870 pump is a good choice. just one barrel tho.. i could do without a pistol.

Perhaps you should enlighten the folks putting these in the hands of our men and women fighting the wars, we don't want to be sending them into battle with an unreliable/complicated firearm

its funny you bring that up.. ol general boddington wont hunt with a semi auto, because of the issues with keeping it clean he says.. but it is issued...

look, not all of us are trained by the government, honestly.. that, and in this sorta situation,, there is no armorer to fix your weapon.

besides, if the 223 was TOTALLY reliable,, there would be no 6.8 spc, nor would jeff cooper continually damn it.


the us gov has had a very bad habit of not outfitting soldiers with good gear pertaining to weaponry... remember the alin conversion 1873 springfields?.. ammo was faulty, with drawn copper cases,,, these tore and ripped, causing a horse soldier to get very dead.. during the philipine insurection,, we used the 38 lc,, with very bad results.. we went from the good 45 to the 9mm... i trust my own judgments more than a bunch of brass.

I can understand your point 338, but there are those of us that were trained by uncle Sam. The .45, M9 Beretta and the AR15 in any configuration (A1 thru M4) have been used where we have trusted our lives to them and fared a lot better than the bad guys did. there are plenty of us that could take the AR 15 and strip it down at night or blindfolded and still get it back together and firing pretty quick. It is a very easy weapon to break down with lots of interchangeable parts. That's one of the greatest things about them...simplicity.

The only times I had problems with the AR m16 was user error.   7 years infantry.
