I am thinking about fishing drano lake this april because some 300,000 springers are suppose to be running this year. It will be my first time fishing there and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on fishing the lake.

I fished last may and got a couple. I will be making another trip the first weekend in may this year.

Crazy place to go but good fishing in the toilet bowl.

Be at the launch 2-3 hrs. before daylight to get in and a place to park. I have got there at daylight and there was a line of boats waiting to get in the water.

ive never fished it but i hear you need to keep your boat line or the regulars will get upset. from what ive heard its kind of like a dance down there & you dont want to get out of line or miss a step or it screws up everyones troll. every time ive mentioned going down there i get talked out of it 'i dont like crowds'. can any one with experience there verify or have i been missing out?

Fished it once about 10 years ago. I'll never go back, complete madhouse. Not my kinda fishin. I can't imagine how packed it would be now 10 years later.

Dont start before April 25th or there are at least 1000 fish a day over the dam for 5 days straight. At least thats the new "Theory". Used to be we wouldn't go till dam counts hit 5000 a day. Which usually always happened by the 25th. But we fished the Wind primarily.
But all the guides just cant wait and fish people on spotty fishing.

You don't have to do the toilet bowl, troll the log booms and the other parts of the lake. Plenty of fish get taken without venturing into the "bowl". We usually start at Drano but end up fishing the bubble at the Wind. Bite can last longer and be more consistent. And way less crazy.

Last year we fished around the corner behind the big rock point. We anchored and fished with prawns under a float and did pretty good.

M2SP wrapped flat fish have been the producer since they came out....

Coming from B-ham if I were you I'd plan on going during the week and staying for at least three days. Try to plan going when the nets are out. It is a ZOO! Even on the weekdays but not as bad as the weekends. Also there are some days those fish just wont bite then the next day its on fire. Since it would be your first time, Id recommend staying away from the circle jerk near the bridge until you get it figured out. Guys will tear you apart if you make any mistakes in that hole. Just as many fish in the rest of the lake anyway

The place is a madhouse on the weekends during the peak of the run, getting launched and finding parking is the worst part. Like others said you don't have to fish the toilet bowl to catch fish, plenty of fish are caught in the main lake.

The predicted springer return to Drano is 12,600 this year.

I know a lot of people that fish down there. It kinda just depends on who you ask. I have seen a lot of diffrent things used, and many diffrent producers.

I know allot of people down there too. One is me. Fished it so much back in the day that STS even did an article on me. Not that it matters but I know the area and the trends over the years. Lots of people catch fish on lots of different things.

But I hear ya but I'm talking about 2 or 3 guide boats that constantly near limit there boats daily. But these guys fish it everyday and live in the parking lot sleeping with there M2SP's. Lol

Thanks carp. I have always used a diamond shaped flasher with a prawn rig or vibrex spinner with a prawn and a 3oz cannon ball weight and done really well. got to love the combat fishing.

everything ur reading in this thread is true. the place is crazy! BUT.. there are fish to be caught. get there EARLY and stay away from the toilet bowl.

That place is ridiculous when the fishing gets good. I live 15 minutes from the lake and never fish it, I guess I just don't have the patience for it.

It's like bumper boats up there and the guy with idle set to high on his kicker is the one everyone hates as he throws off the circle troll. Reminds me of being stuck in a heavy traffic. Well worth the experience to catch a fish.

I never could understand it but a couple buddies of mine actually enjoy the stress of a cluster-f*#! fishery. The yelling,screaming,fighting chaos does not sound fun. I'd rather catch a couple small trout in a mountain stream and enjoy what fishing should be.

we are planning on fishing down there the first weekend in may of you are around and we have room in the boat your more than welcome to come out and wet a line.

I read a report on the show called GPS or something like that, which said that at different points in the CR the number of fish per boat coming out of the water are well below 1 fish per boat. Down by the mouth it is something like 0.3 fish per boat. So there are no real push from the fish yet.

I will be working at North Bonneville for the months of May and June so every night after work i will be there. I can't wait.

It is so much fun to watch the guide boats pushing the dead line, then the Wardens filming them and then writing them tickets for every rod in the water..

The dams have been dumping like mad! I fished for 12hrs by st.helens yesterday 1 fish "nate" for about 40 boats. Then spent 7hrs to day around corbett, heard of 1 fish caught out of about 30+ boats. SUCKS! The water is so high and ripping!

I fished from the dock in washougal yesterday and you should have been up there. ! fish on the dock right below me. And we watched the guides put on a clinic across the river from us.
I left at 10 and the 4 guides i know that were fishing over there had 8 fish on by 10. I don't know how they did for the rest of the day. They were running sardine wrapped kwicks in shallow water.

Thats cray! we were out there up above and no one caught jack! With the water rippin like that I am suprised anyone did. All the guides up by us "4" did not catch one fish in the 7 hours I was out there. I guess we should have went lower. We trolled and sat on wrapped kwicks

Theres bout 50 heading over a day right now. By mid april there will be a 1k+ and the end of april threw the middle of may there will be 2k+.

Carp the guides were anchored in 10-12 feet of water.

The guy right below me on the dock had an 18 pound springer. It hit a green spin-n-glo with mylar wings.

Yeah everyone that was up by us were in around 10-20ft of water. Oh well that's fishing.
