NEW BOW!! Bring on the Game!
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:12:31 PM »
After hours of shooting and lots of input from this site, I finally made a decision.  :IBCOOL:
Since the Parker and Hoyt were out of the price range I wanted (See Bow advice Post),
My lovely wife, God bless her, told me I needed to buy new at least this time.  I am a lucky man!

So, I went back to the Nock Point and picked up the Martin Bengal.
55-70# 28" DL with M-Pro cams giving a rock solid back wall.
IBO rated at 315-320, and even at my DL, still plenty to put the hurt on most any animal in North America, (if I could shoot good enough)
After completely outfitting the bow and shooting my hunting arrows, it is pretty fast and quiet.  The only noise I am hearing is the rubber peep tubing, which I am thinking of doing away with in favor of tubeless peep.  Even maxed out at 73 pound, it is not too bad to draw and smooth at the shot.  A little vibration still, but that is in part to not having any noise suppression yet.

So far I am pretty happy.  It is no Katera, but not $800 Bare either.

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.  My camera is in my hunting pack at our property in Colville, so these will have to do for now.

Thanks for everyone's advice and assistance these last few days.

I believe it's a Starrflight FOB?!  Rotated fins in that thing that cause the shaft to spin the faster it goes with wind hitting it.

The fletchings are FOBs from www.starrflight.com KillBilly is the best to talk to regarding them.

I am going to hunt archery for Elk, but since it is my wife's first season, I am going to hunt modern for deer to help her out.  I should say, I have a modern tag, but planning on using the bow instead.
May use it for bear too.  Undecided at this point.  Never hunted archery seasons so have no idea where to go for elk, and trying to convince a buddy to be my partner.........  We will see how it goes.

Congrats on the shiny new toy!  And good choice in staying with a Washington company!  That will be a great bow for many an elk killed in the future.  Good luck and shoot straight!  (Oh, yeah, you're using FOB's, so you've got that covered.  They really are a better mousetrap.)
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

Jackelope,

Nope, not last week.  Mid-day last week I was drawing back my Hoyt on a Turkey but he would not close the distance.
Have been at the Nock Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, as well as Van Winkles, a couple pawn shops, and Sportsmans.

Love the bow, but it still seems a little loud to me.  Think the timing might be off a bit, as I have read they will be loud if it is off.  That and the peep tubing seems exceptionally loud.

Yep.  Not liking the tube.  Fixed my clearance issues, not all I hear is the tube, and the slight "click" my QAD makes when it fires.  No more vibration either.  Must have been the FOB hitting the launcher arm.
