How quickly do you think you need to buy your tag if you do get drawn? Don't they draw more then the actual number of permits and then its first come first serve?

Yes they will be first come first serve like they were last year, and they said they will be available on day "x".  I don't think they sold out for quite awhile afterwords on the deer, based on the folks that didn't do anything until they got the letter.  Ther eis a little higher demand for the elk, so those went a little faster.

I'm pretty sure they are not over selling this year. Thats why they bumped the number of permits from 2000 to 4000 for deer and 600 to 800 for elk. So they wouldn't have to over sell.

That makes sense. Fine by me either way after I get drawn.

If there are permits left then you can buy them up untill the last day of sale. The elk permits will be sold out within a day or two of being on sale, why the deer will not be sold out that fast.

Just called the WDFW, guy said that the multi season tag results wouldn't be out for another 1-2 weeks. My concern is that I have to buy my small game liscense in order to buy my turkey tags. However, if I but my big game combo tags then I save like $20 on the small game liscence. But I dont want to buy my deer or elk tags before the results and choose my weapon selection yet. By holding out on the multi season results until after the 15th of April the WDWF will get another $20 out of me on top of the $200+ I drop every year for hunting/fishing liscenses and special permit apps., feels like I'm getting shafted. 

You still have to buy a deer license either way. The deer tag is free. The permit is $180.00 on top of the deer license. Go ahead and buy your license now.

They drew on the 7th last year so it will probably be the 8th this year. They like drawing on Fridays. They drew spring bear fairly quickly after the deadline so I wouldn't be surprised if they drew on the 8Th. It's a simple draw There are only 2 hunt choices(either a tag or a point) so they don't have to draw for a million different hunts like with our special permit deer and elk seasons. just my

I was under the impression that you only paid the $180 for the permit to hunt you deer/elk. So from what I gather you are saying that I would but the tag for "X" amount then also pay the $180 for the permit right? Therefore my deer tag would say archery but with the multi permit I would be hunting all the seasons (with the applicable weapons permitted).

You buy a deer license, They give you the tag for free. Then you draw a multi season deer permit you have to pay $180.00 for the permit. They then issue you a new tag that says multi season on it and ask you to return your "archery" tag. So yes it's $180.00 on top of the X amount you spend on a license.

Just when I think I have this multi season pemit thing figured out I am total confused once again. I personally believe the WDFW is in bed with local WA breweries, everytime I try to figure this stuff out it leads me to drink! 

  I hear ya. The only reason I figured it out is I've drawn three times and I always buy my licenses before they draw for the multi season permit.

Thanks for the clarification grundy, having never drawn a multi yet (this was the first year I put in) it was all a little overwhelming. However, I still am going to pick up that six pack of barley pop for "therapeutic reasons". 

Lol no problem. I've been there and yes the beer helps.

Licenses.  Tags.  They are different.

You can purchase a big game hunting license without specifying the type of tag you want.  You will eventually need to get one if you wish to hunt a deer or elk, or if you wish to apply for a special permit.  When you do get a tag, you will then need to specify hunting implement for deer and elk (archery, muzzleloader, modern) and East or West for elk.

That is exactly what I did: I purchased a Deer/Elk/Bear/Cougar license for 2011/2012.  I have not yet "purchased" my deer and elk tags (they were actually part of the license but I will need to pay a small dealer fee when I actually get them).  I applied for a Multi-Season elk permit. If drawn, I will need to pay $180 for the multi-season permit, and I will also need to get an elk tag.  If I don't draw, I will still need to get a deer and/or elk tag if I wish to apply for special permits, or to hunt them.

I don't expect that to be the case this year.  WDFW is planning to draw exactly the quotas.  If there are 4000 permits available, they will draw 4000 names.  That means everyone who draws will have an opportunity to purchase a permit.  The deadline to purchase is September 1.

I was told diffrent a couple of days ago. But we will see, last time they tied that. They had to do 3 or 4 drawings, to get all the permits sold. So they just started over drawing it. I guess we will have to see.

I was told by WDFW that they plan to draw the quota.  Since they have stated that all applicants that draw can purchase a permit up until September 1, I don't see how they could do it any other way.  If they draw more than the quota, then they can't promise everyone an opportunity to purchase one.
