lab shedding question

my chocolate lab is constantly shedding his hair. really doesn't matter the season.  He sleeps indoors all year long and it is a struggle (during the warmer months he stays oustide during the day in his kennel).  he's about 2 1/2 and I comb him a couple times a week with a Furbee type comb to remove the loose hair.  He is fed a quality food (Iams)...hesitant about changing it as I don't want him getting sick.  Don't want to keep him totally outside as he is part of the family.  Any thoughts/suggestion would be appreciated on what we can do to controll the shedding.  Brodie thanks you.

I use to shave my lab.  He loved it.  Done right it does not look goofy.  Not a real close shave.

I believe it is an individual dog thing. I have two labs, a yellow and a chocolate. My yellow sheds year round and she is really shedding now, but my chocolate sheds very little. They are both inside dogs and come and go out side as they please (unless they piss me off) so they aren't inside or outside and more then the other.

The back seat of my truck is full of hair from my yellow but little to none from my chocolate

You might give supplements a try.

I use one of these on my chocolate and it helps alot. At times you can nearly fill a plastic grocery sack with all the loose undercoat.

Supplement may help ( daily vitamin ). Doing that along with regular full grooming d-shedding is offered by most high scaled groomers when you take them in for grooming bath/clipping ect. That should help to reduce the hair. It wont stop it but help to control it. Supplement and diet are always key factors but just like humans some people shed a lot and some don't shed at all!!  Its a trial and error thing. Best of Luck to you!!
