Moses Lake Traditional Shoot April 16/17
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:24:53 PM »
Just curious if any of you other Trad shooters will be making the Moses Lake TBW shoot?  It actually opens on Friday, and runs through Sunday.  This is hands down the most fun shoot I have ever been to.  Great camping, great people and you can shoot till your arms fall off..... Can't remember for sure but I think there is 3 3D courses setup (might have been 4... CRS kicking in).  I'll post some pics from last year, and the flyer....

I have had a lot of fun there, but cannot afford the fuel to drive out to Stratford, also interferes with my Turkey season.
Definately a good shoot, if you bring plenty of arrows, my first year there I started with 18, went home with 6, my wife brought 2 home, but my daughter only broke 3 (10# bow),, would have brought more, but with arrows for my wife  and daughter we figured buying a dozen new arrows apiece (for one trip) would be enough  :chuckle:
Should have brought all our arrows.
I will look forward to the Packwood (if the Baker Ranch is not sold) this year

I don't consider myself a traditional shooter but I have done this shoot and it is a blast.  I am going to try and make it for Saturday even though I haven't shot my recurve in ages.

What, you never "accidently" hit one of your own, or another guys arrow ?  :chuckle:
Actually If you have ever done this shoot, you know what really happens.....
Anybody that does not break an arrow on this course isnt really shooting it, thats why they have the "one arrow" shoot for $$$
figure one arrow a round, 4 rounds a day, 4 days, = 16 arrows broken, I did O.K.

Awesome shoot!  Got to shoot with Jon, Jake and Don most of the weekend... Even spotted Ray down below us on one of the courses sporting that nice quiver he won at the TBW banquet this year.  We shot over 160 targets... 40 each round... and on all but the scoring round we pretty much were emptying our quivers from various ranges challenging each other... I will say buy stock in cedar shafts.... there was plenty sacrificed to the archery gods!  :-)
I did finally win something from a raffle... very nice leather back quiver and arm guard.....  :IBCOOL:  Props to the TBW and those that put on the shoot!

Great shoot. I only sacrificed two arrows to the rock gods - one ash and one carbon. For most of the shoot I used one Cedar arrow, except when two targets were presented.

Congratulations on your win. I was surprised to see the huge turnout. It made it better for sure and I got to shoot a round with Gail Martin of Martin Archery and talk about pronghorn hunting in Wyoming. Neat.

No Kirk didn't make it, talked to Brock and he said Kirk was getting ready to go to Baltimore.  I shot 4 different bows up there... LOL  I shot my Hawk, both Bigfoot bows, and a 42# Hill style bow I picked up from Dick Wightman... "Smoker", a 68" Hill style that has a gray glass finish... Shoulder is coming around.... it was sore by Saturday evening considering we shot over 80 targets that day, and in the second round we were pretty much emptying our quivers from various ranges.... someone in the group would pick a shot... and we'd shoot from there... Lots of fun.

Ray... That is cool you got to shoot with Gail Martin... I got to talk to him at last years WSAA convention... amazing man.  Good to hear he was still out shooting.

had a great time.  i ended up breaking 16 arrows.  once i figured out that 'rock shoot' didn't mean shoot at the rocks, i didn't break any.  trouble is i didn't figure that out until the truck ride home.

NWWABOWHNTR, how about showing off that awesome quiver you won?!
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. Was that a moving turkey? I think i'm gona work up some cool moving shots for the club. they are awsome!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Flying turkey!  Had it between 2 stansions,  got moving along pretty quick!  They also had a boar on a flatbead on train tracks... try to hit that as it runs through the sage.....  :chuckle:

Those movers were a blast.  Hard on the arrows, though... I'm pretty sure that's where I left half of my pile of "toothpicks"
