shoot yote vs let it go
«

I have run into this issue almost everytime I've been out deer hunting. I'll be in my spot glassing and waiting and a yote will come in from being pushed from other hunters. I always put the crosshairs on it but havent ever pulled the trigger since i dont want to ruin the area im in. Last year i was sitting and had one run up to within about 15 yards of me and had its face in my crosshairs. let it go and about 15 minutes later had a doe and 2 pt (my area is 3pt min) come out.
I hunt on Private land in the palouse and the owners have asked us to take out the yotes if we see them. and im really starting to get the itch to take a few out.
What do you guys think i should do/what do you do when you see a yote and you are out deer/elk hunting?

If I am deer or elk hunting, I will ussually let it go unless its towards the end of my morning hunt or I ma thinking about leaving or something like that. Everyonce in awhile I cut loose. One early morning I caught 7 of them in the field I was watching. I really didn't figure any deer would walk out there, so I cut loose. Got a couple of them.

I think it all depends on you and what's going on with your hunt. I have passed on a few and was glad I did. I also hunt public land. So if I'm in a good area I usually will let them go. Now after we kill our deer, I'll come back the next day and cut loose on them while their eating the gut pile.

I almost always let it walk. Even if I am giving up and heading to a different area, I have kicked up enough deer on my way out to warrant not giving them a warning shot. The only times I can remember smoking a coyote was during the last couple of minutes of shooting light before I headed to the truck.

I have had a couple come out shortly after sitting in a spot, I let them go. I suppose if I was getting ready to move on I would shoot. Now that I'm hunting archery it will more tempting to take one sooner.

I am thinking if they are close enough for a bow shot, I would try it, but otherwise, I usually let them walk if I am in an area I am planning on hunting. I have taken shots on my way to and from though.

I'll bag almost any hunt to kill a yote...They're generally at the top of the hit list.

I take em when I get the chance. Had one pop out last Oct when we were deer hunting. It was around 11 am and nothing happening. I was hunting over a wheat field up on this bluff when a yote popped out 400 yrds away. I told my son since its dead out that I'll take it. It was quartering towards us so I put the scope on its head and puleed the trigger BLAM..... GAME OVER. When we walked up to it we saw it was a female and had one shot through the top of the head.

I try not to let them go...occasionally during deer or elk season I won't shoot. But other wise I'm throwing some lead their way.

Never when deer or elk hunting and only once in a blue moon while bear hunting.

i killed one at a lunch break this year, but it was the first time ever. mostly i let them go. not really interested in killing a yote and ruining my odds at a nice buck.

I'd rather hunt yotes than any big game anyway. Shoot them.
