WDFW-Karelian Bear Dogs
« on: May 13, 2011, 11:49:24 PM »
Check out these Karelian Bear Dogs (KBD) used by WDFW for nuisance bears. Pretty interesting. I knew of the breed and have since read some more about them but did not realize WDFW used them. Also, looks like the WDFW officers were having a good time. Some of you might know the one officer.

Oh yeah, the guy in the first 30 seconds of the video is a little nuts.

Officer Richards dog is Mishka, and she is the sweetest dog, other than my lab, that I have ever met.  Officer Richards not so much :chuckle:

Would be way cooler to see people using the bear dogs for hunting  ...dont you love how WDFW can harass wildlife but its a ticket for us  :dunno: I love how we are treated in this great country and especially in this state  :bash: :bash: :bash:

but the dogs and what they do is pretty cool they are an interesting breed.

I wouldn't blame this on the WDFW. It was the people of this state who voted to outlaw hound hunting for bears.

Well that's kind of like saying how come a police officer can drive over the speed limit. They're doing it because it's their job to prevent people  getting hurt or killed by bears that have lost their fear of humans.

Its the fact that we need them to do these things to take care of us as if we are all a bunch of toddlers about to run in the street.....seriously do we need to have this much government over protection from ourselves, and the possibility of offending a few people means we need another law  :dunno: I just find it a bit assinine that our government is using dogs bred to hunt bears when they have outlawed using dogs to hunt bears and it was outlawed because the poor bears didnt get a fair shake and were harassed by the dogs according to some yet when WDFW does it its all ok ?  :dunno:

I am sure there are plenty of people out there that oppose this method, and make it very clear to WDFW that they do. But when it is a matter of public safty, WDFW will take the grief and go on with what needs to be done.  :twocents:

I would almost guarantee that wildlife managers are ok with running dogs on bears for hunting. To reiderate what Bobcat said the people of WA have imposed this on us, not WDFW. It is no different than ariel gunning problematic wolves!

WDFW should share some blame with the idiotic voters that voted for the dumb initiatives.  WDFW could have been more vocal and outspoken against the initiatives at the time they were being voted on.  I blame them for not fighting for the rights of the hound guys.......... :twocents:

Why would you have one of these dogs to appease the public with when no bear hunter i've ever heard of would even think about feeding one of these things. Who do you think pays for these stupid things. Another great idea from our state.
