The hammer will not cock there is something broken in the trigger assembly.

I have had only one experience with Classic Precision Gunsmithing in Snohomish -- but it was a good one. Larry rebarreled a center fire rifle for me last summer. He's a nice guy. It would not hurt to call him and get his thoughts on your muzzleloader.
