5 X 5 Elk Mount
« on: June 04, 2008, 08:06:57 PM »
Just did the finnish work on this guy.   The left antlet is bent back and to the side.  Some kinda birth defect I guess.  I have a picture of just the rack floating around somewhere in another post.  The first pic was taken befor I cleaned off the antlers, lol.

Here is a better view of the twist in the rack.  Hard to see in the other photos

He was really young.  Maybe 2 1/2 years old.  Only 10 1/4" eye to nose and a 22" neck.  Nice cape on him.

i dont blame anyone for shooting a branch antlered bull, but my, if he was 2 and a half, which i think is pretty close, he would be a GREAT bull in three or four years.

I may be off on the age but I don't think so.  I know it was taken with a bow so it might have been the guys first bow kill.  The rack has got some character IMO.  Othet than the left antler being a bit cockeyed the #4's are turned in as well.

I send them out to have them tanned.  They are an hour or so away from me so I drive to them for pickup and delivery.  Their tan's are top notch!  I am very picky when it comes to a tannery.
