Do these look like hunting dogs?
« on: June 03, 2011, 01:55:29 PM »
I caught this video on my camera near my home.  These dogs were coming out of a new clear cut which there is no access except for walking in behind a gate at the bottom of the canyon.  Two days after these dogs came through, my camera was stolen.  There is no easy access to this area and I am wondering if maybe someone was running some dogs and might have snagged my camera.  I have a great video of a sow and two cubs in that same exact spot about two weeks prior.  None of my three neighbors recognized any of the dogs.  Any thoughts?

Looked like a black lab in the lead.  The other dogs I don't know what kind they are, but I bet they are just a group of dogs out investigating things on their own...

Is it possible that the bear took off with the camera?  :dunno:
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

How do you know it was two days after the dogs came through? Do you check the camera every day? If there are bears in the area I would think that they could be responsible for the missing camera.

I would expect some collars with electronics and what not for dogs being run. Looks like a stay pack on the move to me.

Those dogs look pretty well fed for being a pack on the run. Hopefully you'll see them again. Sorry to hear about your camera. Was that on your own property?

To Bobcat:  The shortened version of the story is that I gathered my memory card on Sunday evening and when I was leaving, I bumped some elk which headed right back toward my camera so I did go back the next evening to check for pictures and it was gone.  The camera was on my neighbor's property pointing out toward a timber company's land.  I didn't see any sign of bear and the sticks I had used to help tighten my strap were placed nicely at the bottom of the tree.  Oh well....at least it wasn't my newest camera which is up now and double locked.  Oh ya, there was a candy bar wrapper just into the cut.....who knows.

Well, it sounds like it was stolen then.  (Unless a bear is a neat freak and stacks the sticks neatly and has a stash of candy bars somewhere). :chuckle:

(I've heard about more cameras being stolen this year than ever.  Is it because there are just more cameras out there, or are there more dirtbags out in the woods these days?)

All the dogs look like mutts to me. The first dog, the brindle one, could be a hunting breed, but he is just a mutt if he is running around with all those other mutts.  :twocents:

I can only think of two reasons for that group of dogs to be there:

1.  They are a pack of mutts up to no good.
2.  Someone was out walking them.
